I am a student studying law at university. I like playing computer games, snooker and listening to all types of music. I am also writing a novel at the moment. And thank you for the reads and ratings; they are gratefully received.

I have a range of quiz books at my disposal, and as a quiz buff, I thought I'd give this one (produced by Carlton) a shot. It's eye-catching title of being the biggest pub quiz book ever helped my decision to buy the book. With over a staggering 17,000 questions contained within it, it is possibly the only resource a quizmaster will ever need. The price was also a determining factor, at around £10 (which equates to an impressive 17 questions for every penny). The cover is informal and represents the front of a beer tap in a pub, with the title written across it in the same fashion as a brand of beer would normally be. This informal tone continues throughout the book, and makes reading and sourcing from the book more entertaining.
The book is split into 3 difficulty levels (easy, medium and hard), and before each is a short, humorous explanation of what to expect in each section. Within these seconds there are loads of quizzes, all divided into semi-specific subjects of 30 questions each. For example, the subject of entertainment would be split into a quiz on gameshows, dramas and books. Besides this there are also many (about half of the quizzes in the whole book) pot luck quizzes, which are ideal for a general quiz to test all areas of knowledge. This division of categories makes this book ideal for pub quizzes.
The questions are well written, and are all open ended, in that there are no multiple choice or true or false options to choose from. My only real criticism of the book is the way in which you have to check the answers. It is sometimes confusing as you have to change the page to the specific pge number quoted on the top of each page. This is sometimes the next page, or a previous page, or a page several pages away, which means you have to constantly flick through the book as you're asking or reading the questions. Though it does perhaps prevent any cheaters from playing unfairly.
All major topics are included in the book; from sport to literature and from geography to television, so it is truly a useful resource for any pub quiz.
