As a Margaret Atwood fan, I have to admit to being disappointed by The Blind Assassin. Basically it tells the story of an old woman looking back on her life, and includes her dead sister's book. Although it is very well written, the story itself is a let down. I know this book has been critically acclaimed, and from a literary point of view, I am sure it is very worthy. However, as a good read I personally found it to be lacking. I actually left it half way through to read another book, as I really wasn't bothered about what happened to the main character. And no, I am not a Mills and Boons reader, I am a literature graduate who gets through a fair few 'high brow' books a week. if you're looking for a book that grips you from the start so that you find yourself cooking with one hand and holding the book in front of your nose with the other, this isn't it.
