THE BODY SHOP - WHITE MUSK BODY SPRAY AND MY NAN 34 of 34 Ciao Users found the following review helpful

Advantages Long lasting scent, uses musk substitute

Disadvantages Very identifiable fragrance

Just one whiff of this scent and I'm immeadiately reminded of my late Nan, who regularly received White Musk body spray on birthdays, Christmas and Mothers Day.

White Musk was her absolute favourite and even though I have on occasion received this spray as a gift I have found it extremely difficult to wear. It 'belongs' to my Nan and no else.

You probably think I'm a very strange person, but if you think about it, the sense of smell is one of the first senses to come alive in a newborn baby. A newborn instantly recognises and feels comforted by the scent of its mother.

I'm sure most of you can match a fragrance to a person. My sister used to be partial to Anais Anais and even though she rarely wears it now, if I catch a whiff, up pops a memory. My Mum has always been keen on Estee Lauder's Youth Dew, again if I detect this on some one, I can instantly recall a time in my childhood when I tried on a very expensive dab!

White Musk Body Spray has to be one of the most highy evocative sprays around, as instantly identifiable as the likes of Poison, Obsession and Estee Lauders Beautiful. Choose it only if you have an extrovert, bubbily personality. This spray is certainly not for the shrinking violet.

It has a distinctly floral fragrance with a touch of ylang ylang, jasmine and lily - a hint of the oriental. Musk fragrances in the past have received a bad name due to the cruel methods of extraction from animals. The Body Shop thankfully uses a musk substitute and promotes itself as being against animal testing - a sore topic for many people.

White Musk Body Spray comes in a clear, tough, plastic bottle with a pump action top which releases a fine easily absorbed mist of fragrance. It contains 100ml of clear liquid and is currently priced at £5.00.

Other products in the range include :

luxury soap at £2.00,
home fragrance oil at £3.00,
potpourii at £7.00,
Eau de Toilette at £11.00,
Bath and Shower Gel at £4.50,
Shimmering dusting powder at £6.50,
body lotion at £6.00
Eau de Parfum at £11.00.

I would hesitate to recommend any perfume, as scent is a very personal choice. Fragrance can often seem very heavy on some people and more subtle on others. If you're looking for a signature fragrance for this coming summer and are a fan of The Body Shop then go ahead and spray to your hearts content. Come near me though, and I shall instantly be reminded of my Nan - good memories though!
