I was desperate!! My hands had got so dry they were almost cracking and looked permanently dirty. I had tried a few products without success and was so fed up I went into The Body Shop in Harrogate, held them out to the assistant and said, "Please have you got something to sort these out?!" She took one look and said, "Oh my God" or similar, then took me over to the Hemp stand and recommended this product with no hesitation. I read the blurb which described it as "heavy duty for hardworking hands" and recommended it for gardeners and other people whose hands took a lot of stick. So despite the hefty price tag (around £6 then, which was several years ago!) I bought it.
I put it on at bedtime and had the really strange experience of feeling my skin drinking it! Yes, it just felt like that. I slathered a load of the cream on and half an hour later my skin felt less dry but like it needed a top-up. I even woke up a couple of times during the night and put on some more. The next night I just put it on a bedtime and didn't need the top-ups. After that I carried on using it for a week or so and it totally healed my hands, the cracks and ingrained dirt disappeared and my hands were OK again.
Because of the price I don't buy it regularly but if my hands start getting bad again I treat them to another tube. I have found this the most effective hand cream I've used by far. It can feel a bit greasy if you put too much on at once, but that feeling doesn't last as it is absorbed quickly.
The cream comes in a silver metal tube which I think is a bit like you'd get a DIY product in rather than a handcream, but as the whole hemp range is packaged similarly I guess it's to make it appeal to male and female customers and possibly to stress the no frills, hard working image . It also has the hemp leaf on, a bit of an eye-catcher?! I think it's really pricey, for this reason I haven't bought it recently but I believe it's now £7.50 for the 100ml tube. I will be buying it if my husband or I get sore hands again.
That's another good thing, it's acceptable to men too. Most of the creams I love the smell of (ie floral and girly) he condemns as smelling like "bin cleaner" or "dead flowers" and wouldn't touch with a bargepole; however this one just smells rather herbal and a bit odd, suits him fine!!!! It's not pretty pink either but a kind of very pale grenish white. Also with its long history of not testing on animals The Body Shop is an ethical company to buy fr, which for me is another reason to splash out now and then on this useful, effective product. To be honest, without it I doubt my hands would be healthy at all. I owe them!
Advantages: Excellent results, subtle slightly masculine scent, hygienic packaging, lasts ages. Disadvantages: The price is a bit steep but it is worth it!
...really into beauty products and the whole regime thing, to be honest I don't have the time, inclination or sticking power when it comes to doing something once or twice a day like that. Her indoors always goes on at me and says how much easier my life would be if I tried having a regular regime I stuck to when it comes to looking after my skin. Before I met her I used soap on my face and shower gel on my body, that was it when it came to cleansing, ... ...why. They are worse in the winter but it sometimes happens in the summer too. We have tried to figure out what it is, it must be an allergy to something I come into contact with but there seems to be no real pattern to it.
I was just using Atrixo on my hands when they were really bad but it wasn't really doing much good and when they were really bad using it would sting like mad. Then a few weeks ago her indoors gave me something that she thought ...

Advantages: A really effective cream for dry hands. Disadvantages: Takes time to be absorbed
Hemp? In the Body Shop? I had always looked with some suspicion on their shelves of hemp-based products. I don't know why, I kind of felt a bit uneasy about them. As though people might look at me, looking at the shelves, and think "Hmmm. we know what she gets up to."
However, my opinions have been totally changed since I was out with a friend and she gave me a dab of her Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector. She told me she had found it excellent for ... ...squeezed some into my palm the first thing I noticed was the greyish colour. It didn't look like any conventional handcream. More like something you'd use to clean your grouting. Next I noticed the smell. It's slightly reminiscent of patchouli, I think, and very pleasant in an earthy sort of way. I really do prefer more natural smells like this to artificial ones. Once I'd rubbed in the cream, my hands felt lovely and soft for the rest of the day ...

Advantages: The best thing for very dry skin I have found, natural product, wonderful smell Disadvantages: No mind-altering reaction!
...maligned plant, you know. The very mention of the word brings to mind images of people getting stoned on cannabis, of hippies and drug use. But seriously, hemp is actually a mere cousin of the psychedelic drug, and the levels of THC (the psychoactive bit) are so low in industrial grade hemp as to be almost non-existent. Honestly! I mean, would I really be reviewing mind altering hand cream on a family site such as this? ;-)
The hand cream I am on ... ...original Source came along. The Body Shop has been around for some 26 years now (making it older than me!), and still upholds its policies of never testing anything on animals, of supporting community trade with the Third World, of defending human rights and protecting the environment – they are one of the few companies to stand out in this arena among the ethically challenged companies that crowd our high streets. And it was these policies that ...

Advantages: Works really well, lasts a long time, masculine Disadvantages: Masculine, strange smell/look, quite pricey.
...really necessary- and combined with the chilly weather my poor hands had taken quite a battering, feeling quite red, raw and rough.
As a long-time Body Shop fan I took myself off to their store to find a suitable cream to bring me some relief. The Hemp Hand Protector in its smart shiny metallic tube and green and black packaging caught my eye- I suppose it doesn't look quite as feminine as most hand creams so it appealed to the stupid male ego in ... ...get? I felt butcher by the minute and started looking for "testosterone" on the ingredients list! Real men use Body Shop hand creams!
Anyway, I was a bit put out at the £6.50 price tag for a 100ml tube, which seemed a bit steep. But Body Shop do helpfully provide a tester so I decided to put some on first to see how it felt. I liked it and was so keen for some relief I took it to the till.
The cream contains hemp seed oil, glycerine, allatonin ...

...and was immediately intruiged by the the hash leaf on the tube!
The tube is very eye catching- a shiny silver foil tube with contrasting brown writing and of course the hash leaf. Although I got a mere 10ml tube, the larger tubes are the same design. The lid is a screw off one that the tube balances on. It tends to get a bit clogged up with but is easily cleaned. When you open the tube, the stuff comes flying out which tends to waste a little of ... ...bit thicker. It looks exactly the same colour as mint ice cream but this dissapears when you rub it in. However it's not actually a moisturiser but a protector yet my hands always feel very sort and supple for ages after I've used it. A non greasy layer forms which protects your hands from things like rough weather. This layer doesn't drop off when washed unlike most moisturisers. The great results I experienced lasted for a good couple of hours. ...

Advantages: Lovely Smell. Great for very dry hands Disadvantages: A little bit greasy!
instant relief to them and what were very dry, painful to move fingers because of the little cuts inbetween them are instantly moisturised and comfortable.
This therefore does not sting when applied to slightly broken skin. Since I don't suffer from eczema etc I wouldn't like to say how this would react. It is quite highly perfumed so I can imagine that it wouldn't be great for people with extremely dry skin conditions.
I think it would be helpful if the manufacturer's perhaps put on whether this cream is helpful for eczema or psoriasis or whether it should be avoided.
Whilst it is slightly greasy, I much prefer the smell to that of The BodyShop's HempHandProtector. It gives instant relief to dry hands but I find that I do need to re-apply it after an hour or so on particularly bad days.
To the best of my knowledge this doesn ...
Advantages: Nice shiny red packaging Disadvantages: Didn't repair my hands
I really suffer in the winter from dry, sore and cracked skin on my hands; it gets to the point where I end with hands that look like a 90 year old! And the other half nicknames me sand paper hands! I have used the BodyShopHemphandprotector for a few years and this really does seem to help but I had run out and out of pure laziness couldn't be bothered going into town so I popped to my local Superdrug and found this product, So did it cure my sand paper hands?

Advantages: Very soft, moisturised feet. Disadvantages: Some may say the cost.
I am always inundated with BodyShop goodies at Christmas time, largely thanks to the parents of the children I work with and the Hemp Foot Protector was one of the gifts.
Now before I start, I must let you know that my hands suffer from dryness and cracked skin in the winter but for some reason my feet don't, could be largely due to the fact that they are protected from the cold by socks etc and aren't constantly plunged in water, washing paintbrushes etc..
Nevertheless I thought I would give my feet a little treat and two weeks later they are still getting the treat on alternate nights, when I remember and actually have time!
