Advantages Smells good enough to eat!

Disadvantages Unfortunately NOT EDIBLE!

Body shop – Nut body butter

2 for £17
300ml

If some of you have read my previous review about the Avon range Planet Spa, you may realise I am a bit partial to Shea butter products. I think it’s a combination of the smell and the fact that it seems almost edible, despite the fact that it’s clearly not!

I was given a selection pack of Body Butter products from the Body Shop for Christmas. I had previously gone into our local BS and tested some of their range, and couldn’t decided which one I liked best, so I thought a ‘selection pack’, similar to what you get with chocolate bars (and that’s another story), would be the best option.

The pack contained Shea, Nut and Mango Body Butters, each in a little sample pot of 50mls, with an attractive red presentation box. It didn’t take me long to determine which one was my favourite. It was without doubt the Nut Butter. So, this is the ‘flavour’ I will be reviewing.

The nut butter comes in a 300ml pot and is currently on offer in store and online for 2 for £17. It seems quite expensive, but it lasts quite a long time, so in relation to similar products available would seem averagely priced.

Nut Body butter is aimed at dry skin sufferers, and I do find that my skin gets quite dry sometimes, especially my legs at this time of year, after being hid behind jeans for 8 months. The summer is on it’s way, and I need to get my dry, scaly skin in sufficient shape to warrant letting them be seen in a skirt or shorts! This product is ideal for this purpose.

The pot is dark brown with a picture of a Brazil nut on the lid. This is not apparent at first and just looks like a mish mash of brown shading, but on closer inspection i.e. with a magnifying glass you can just about tell what it is. The pot has a screw top lid and is easy to undo; the problem comes when you try to put the lid back on after covering your hands with the butter.

The smell is a mixture of nuts and a hint of coffee and chocolate. It has a rich aroma, which reminds me of the cappuccino drink you can get which has hazelnuts in. It contains Brazil nut oil, cocoa butter and Shea butter from the Amazon and Ghana, which explains my connection to the nutty, chocolate smell.

The consistency of the product is very thick. It is almost lardy, and reminds me of my mum cooking chips with huge chunks of white lard. I’m not sure if that is a negative or positive attribute, but the gorgeous smell more than makes up for it.
You can apply the product all over your body, but I wouldn’t recommend it on the face, as this can be quite a sensitive area. However, it feels lovely as it soaks into your skin and is not greasy at all, just really smooth and soft. I used it mainly on my legs, arms and elbows. This really made a difference over a period of two weeks, when my skin felt smoother and the snake like scales had disappeared! It also leaves your hands really soft as these are used to apply the product. I may brave the elements and put a skirt on soon to prove it!

The only downside of this product is the fact that because it is in a pot, you tend to use much more than if it was in a tube. I scooped huge fingerfuls into the palm of my hand which definitely made me use more than I should. Saying that, you only need a small amount for the butter to sink into the skin, so it’s just me being greedy as always!

The Body Shop states that:

“This product contains Community Traded Shea butter, a fantastic natural moisturiser, made by Tungteiya Shea Butter Association in Northern Ghana. Buying products with Shea butter supports over 300 women in Ghana who make the Shea butter by hand in their villages.”

It is a well-known fact that the Body Shop is free from animal testing, but they also support small communities and protects the environment ‘locally and globally’.

Other body butters include: mango, melon, coconut, blueberry, olive, papaya, sesame, hemp, grapeseed, Shea, and Brazil nut. There range also includes body scrubs in similar flavours.

Now I have found a product which I really enjoy, there will never be an excuse anymore at Christmas or Birthdays!

The range can be found at www.thebodyshop.co.uk the site also includes a store locator.
