The grapefruit is a subtropical citrus tree grown for its fruit which was originally named the "forbidden fruit " of Barbados. Currently, the grapefruit is said to be one of the "Seven Wonders of Barbados." Grapefruit is one of my favourite flavours and fruits and as such I always tend to go for that flavour when I am buying body lotions. One of my favourite lotions as per previous reviews is the Body Butters from the Body Shop and in my opinion they do a lovely version of pink grapefruit.
We are all aware of the ethical beauty store, The Body Shop which was founded by Anita Roddick in the 1970's. It now has over 2,000 stores in 54 countries and is the second largest cosmetic franchise in the world.
It is known for its global issues around the world and makes sure that its products are not tested on animals, defend human rights etc. Apparently by the end of 2008 65% of their products will contain community traded ingredients. In 2006 they actually spent over $12 million on Community Traded ingredients. Their Body Butters definitely follow this philosophy which I think is an added reason to buy these products over other normal moisturizers.
Body Butters are moisturizers intended to nourish, protect and soften the skin. The product comes in handy plastic tub/disc with a screw top. The pink grapefruit version comes in an almost salmon pink coloured tub. It has a sticker on the top which features a picture of a very succulent looking grapefruit on it. This makes me think that the product must use real, natural ingredients and as such will be very authentic and a quality product. The lotion is extremely thick and in my opinion very luxurious. I think it is called butter because it really does look like a butter and is thick and creamy like that. I think the name also comes across as fairly decadent as if you can imagine smothering yourself with butter it sounds very exciting. The lotion has quite a sheen to it, almost like a glycerine sheen which I think also increases the thickness of the lotion.
The pink grapefruit smell is quite strong and does really hit you when you open the tub. It has quite a sharp, tangy smell to it which I think is lovely but if you don't like a citrusy, quite sharp smell then this probably isn't the lotion for you. In my opinion it really is just like smelling a real grapefruit and I think the Body Shop have captured the fragrance and packaged it well. The smell is very potent and stays on your body for a long time. I like this because sometimes you use a nice smelling body lotion as a perfume for the day but the smell fades fairly quickly but with these Body Butters this doesn't happen. I think because of this though you do really have to like the smell and want to smell like it all day because they do linger. The lotion itself also has a bit of a pink tinge to it too but goes on clear when you rub it in.
The pink grapefruit lotion also contains shea butter and cocoa butter. The Cocoa butter works as a moisturizer and actually melts at body temperature and is meant to leave the skin feeling soft and silky smooth. Due to the fact that it melts at body temperature when I use the butter I like to scoop some out of the tub with my fingertips and then I warm it up a little in my hands before I put it on so it melts a bit and then rubs into the skin perfectly.
The shea butter has a high level of antioxidant vitamins such as A, E and F which help to protect and nourish the skin.
The lotion also contains pink grapefruit seed oil which is said to moisturise. Apparently according to their website pink grapefruit seed oil is rich in essential fatty acids that help restore skin smoothness and suppleness while rebuilding the skins barrier function. I would probably agree with that statement. I have always found that this lotion moisturises my skin and it always stays smooth for days after I have used it so for me it definitely works. I know from other beauty information out there that grapefruit oil is a really great beauty essential. It is often used in aromatherapy for its fat-disgregating properties which helping against cellulitis and its high vitamin C content also promotes the synthesis of new collagen, helping improve skin tone. It also improves blood circulation and stimulates the lymphatic system drain toxins from the body.
So it appears that you can't really go wrong if you choose this version of the Body Shop's Body Butters.
The Pink Grapefruit Body Butter comes in two different sizes. There is a 50ml pot and a 200ml pot. The 50ml pot is very handy because it is handbag size and I generally use this one as a hand lotion because it is not that big and will not last very long if you use it for an all over body lotion. The 200ml version is much better for all over use. They are fairly expensive. The 50ml tub cost in this flavour is £5 and I would say probably last a few weeks of daily use. The 200ml one costs £12.50 and is one of the cheaper ones because some of the 200ml pots in different flavours go up to £15.50.
All in all a great product that will really make a difference in the world and possibly make you feel a little bit more beautiful too!
Advantages: At least it gets you clean! Disadvantages: Not a pleasant smell

Scintillating? Twinkle ye not over Papaya!

Advantages: Creamy, Works, Uni-sex Disadvantages: Smell isn't too appealing
Since the age of three I have suffered with eczema which varies from itchy to extremely uncomfortable, depending of the amount of physical activity I do, temperature, clothes I wear and shower products I use. For years my mum trekked me off to the doctors to receive ointments that while targeting the problem momentarily only left my skin drier and flakier than before and with harsh ingredients I often found that I would get mild allergic reactions ... ...I admitted to myself that the fight against eczema was one that I could win and waved the white flag. It wasn't until I bought a house with my wife and found every spare inch covered in Body Shop products that I discovered Coco butter Body Butter, a rich, creamy skin moisturiser that smells faintly of vanilla. Instantly after years of scratching, bleeding and flaking my skin finally felt hydrated, less taut, appeared to be significantly less red ...

Advantages: Smell, feel, community trade Disadvantages: Price
...I hotfooted it straight down the high street to see what lovely item I could get (without parting with any of my own cash)!
Looking through all of the gorgeous Body Butter testers for a while, I found I kept coming back to the scrumptious smell of the passion fruit one. Finally I realised I had to have one for myself so that I could smell it every day!!
Now, I will readily admit that I am not that loyal to any particular beauty brand, but I've ... ...so gentle, and all of the others due to their being so natural and smelling so lovely.
One of the massive advantage points of this body butter (and all of The Body Shop products) is that they are also ethically sound. You can always feel 100% less guilty when you buy their products compared with other brands, due to their 'Community Trade' initiative.

Advantages: tastes delicious and does what it's meant to Disadvantages: bit expensive
...sometimes. Cracked lips. The bane of my life. I live in a coastal area and to be honest I think I suffer more because of this, the weather is harsh and the wind gets up to gale force a lot of the time. So short of covering myself in vaseline all the time what options are there. I always used to use Lypsyl. Then for some reason I went off the taste of it. I have been looking around for a good alternative and wandered in to The Body Shop a few weeks ... ...I wrote my op hence the delay.

Packaging
Very plain as you would expect. It comes in a clear plastic tub with a sticker on the top with The Body Shop, the flavour and the name on it. No fuss, no frills. Price
It costs £3 for a 10ml pot which is a little expensive since you can get Lypsyl for 99p.
Does it work
Yes!! It does. I've been using it for a while now and my lips have never been softer, yay!

Advantages: Soft subtle skin, Nice smell, enviormentally friendly, nice packaging (un-girly) Disadvantages: a bit expensive
After trying The Body Shop Hemp Lip Protector (see rave), I really wanted to try some other products from this range. So my next choice was the Hemp Body Butter.
The packaging boasts 'Spread serious moisture. This ultra-rich, all-over body butter with moisturising hemp seed oil deals direct with dry skin'

Advantages: Smells beautiful, makes you feel sexy Disadvantages: doesn't last very long
I love the vanilla range at the bodyshop, but I'm going to focus specifically on the body mist, as this is the one I have at the moment. I love the smell of this product, it always chirps me up instantly when I'm feeling down and there is absolutely no doubt about it being an aphrodisiac - people are seduced by the smell of this stuff. Sadly, the smell doesn't last very long, or at least the body mist doesn't (perhaps the eau de toilette would be better) but it's relatively cheap, only being about 6 pounds or so, and I think that for a little perk-me-up this is the perfect price. I would love to try out other products from the range when I next get the chance, and would recommend this to anyone who is considering trying it. ...
Advantages: natural Disadvantages: smell doesn't last all day
I have very sensitive skin, I can't use all products from the bodyshop as some, as clearly stated on the packaging, are not suitable for sensitive skin. However the vanilla range is very kind. It has never brought me out in a rash, it has even helped my skin become smoother and soft.
The good points apart from the kindness are:
The vanilla range is the unique smell so it carrys through the range whatever you use, people like the smell as its sweet and inviting.
It is not expensive, The BodyShop have always tried hard to keep their prices down, I do not overspend.
It last for ages, you only need a little bit, it you use a shower mitt of some kind it goes even further.
The only disadvantage as I've said its the smell doesn't last all day as a perfume does, but I think it works well with your natural scent. A must in my ...
Advantages: Smell exactly like vanilla, due to its natural content Disadvantages: I think it's quite pricey for a small bottle, but will check that.
I have to admitt, I brought this product because I love Vanilla. But the reason I rebrought this product is for the simple fact is that it is the only vanilla spray I have found that smells just like vanilla. Others are usually just manufactured smells, like Boot's Vanilla musk, or Impulse. But this one uses natural vanilla extract to give the exact smell, and it is wonderful. If your a vanilla fan, the whole of the vanilla range from the bodyshop, Body and bath wash, soap, and most of all the body lotion makes the perfect gift for any vanilla freak. I can't remember it's price, but if you look here again in a few days I would have found out for you. ...
