I vowed that I would never write an opinion on household products, soap operas or personal cleaning products…OK, OK I am a broken woman!
Err…well…shampoo is great. It makes my hair clean and silky…
Come on, I must be able to do better than this…inject that usual ‘something’ (whatever that is?) that I can normally do in my opinion writing.
Why shampoo?
Well, why not? As most of us know, by not washing our hair (apart from my dad, who has very little) on a regular basis it becomes dirty, it just doesn’t feel that comfortable when it’s dirty. But there is another reason why we wash our hair. Like most personal washing and deodorising we do, it isn’t just so that we feel good and don’t offend other commuters on the train when we haven’t used our Right Guard, there are health reasons too.
As with other parts of our body, when not kept clean it can hide any manner of ‘grimy’ things – and remember that there is skin underneath, so if you suffer from psoriasis or eczema then it is even more important to wash hair in appropriate treatments.

It is also the fact that their products don’t have to rely on mass advertising that promises fantastic results: the products are simple, basic and ‘no frills’.
But I was drawn to the advantages of using a tea tree oil shampoo. Firstly, it is mild in the concentration that is used, and it has anti-bacterial benefits. As I get a few spots in my hairline sometimes it is ideal, because tea tree oil is both good for acne and oily hair and skin (which I have!).
And another benefit…
Well, quite frankly I don’t want to smell like a bloody peach! Or anything else that manufactures' believe that consumers want to smell of after they’ve shampooed their hair. The Tea Tree Oil Shampoo sold by The Body Shop has actually got quite a funny smell. It certainly isn’t sweet smelling, and it is slightly ‘anti-bacterial’ smelling (think hospitals or doctor’s surgeries), but it isn’t lingering. Yes, my hair smells clean afterwards but not perfumed – just the way I like it (so it doesn’t overpower my CK1).
So, the verdict?
Well, I like it. I don’t go for top of the range products, which sell themselves as beauty products (I can look good without them!), although Body Shop’s offering at over £3 for 250ml it is rather expensive. But hey, all I need to do is just wash and go (sorry, wrong one)…
…Talking of adverts, I think that the product would benefit greatly with an advert staring Emma Forbes where her towel falls to the ground, and she blushes as I walk towards her...oh well, one can dream!
N.B Used mainly for Normal to Oily hair, but I know some people with dry hair who get on well with the product. Only available through The Body Shop stores.
Advantages: cleans hair well Disadvantages: overpowering smell
...to be good for preventing the dreaded head lice. As my daughter had recently started school, I thought this might be a good deterrent. I was at a Body Shop party so took the opportunity to purchase a bottle of shampoo.
Costing £3.25 for 250ml, it comes in a clear plastic bottle with a black flip-top lid. As with all Body Shop products, the bottle can be returned to any Body Shop store for recycling.
The blurb on the bottle says ‘this refreshing ... ...for very sensitive scalps’.
The shampoo itself is pale green in colour. (I seem to remember it was darker green when I bought it – maybe I left it sitting on the windowsill too long?). The first thing I noticed when I opened the bottle is the smell – it has a very strong smell of tea tree. My daughter screwed up her face and said ‘yuck – what’s that horrible smell’! So, not a popular fragrance in this household! ...

Advantages: Leaves hair and scalp feeling thoroughly clean, soft and shiny hair. Disadvantages: Initially quite a strong smell.
For the last two years I have had problems using various hair care products. I already have intolerances to many foods and various household products. But went on to develop an intolerance to the hair care products I was using. I constantly had a very itchy scalp and my hair was not in very good condition.

As with all the Body Shop products it comes in a plain basic bottle, with a flip top lid. The usual label with ingredients, the Body Shop logo and instructions on use.
You do not even have to dispose of the bottle, as when empty you can return the bottle to the shop for recycling.

Advantages: Best nit killer Disadvantages: stings if goes in the eyes
The body shop's tea tree oil shampoo is the best way of getting rid of those awful things no one wants to talk about nits. I know everyone wouldn't want to admit to there child having nits but it is one of the joys of having children at school they will get them from time to time and as they are so contagious it is very hard for a child to miss them. I have tried every medicated shampoo on the market including ones prescribed by the doctors only ... ...that tea tree oil was the best way to kill them off so I went off to the body shop and bought a bottle. I washed my daughters hair in it for three days on the trot and they'd all gone and now I wash her hair in it once a month and I don't have any problems anymore. Beware of children's eyes though as it does sting if it goes in. ...

...scalp. It got to the point where it became embarrassing as I was constantly scratching my head and people were starting to look! I tried all sorts of treatments, a friend recommended T/Gel which was quite expensive and helped a bit but not completely. I then came across The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Shampoo & Conditioner. I remembered that when I was pregnant I used to use tea tree oil on my extremely itchy belly(!) so I thought I'd give it a go. I've ...
