A friend of mine is a Body Shop fan and while browsing in the shop I saw their Vitamin E range. I haven't used any products of this range (in fact any of their skin care ranges till then). I ran out of my Simple Toner I thought was a bit on the poor side (it just felt like water) so I thought why not and bought it.
Packaging
As with most Body Shop products the toner comes in a simple but effective flip-top cylindrical bottle that has the dark green Body Shop logo on. What I really love about The Body Shop packaging is that most containers have screw on lids and are great for recycling. The Vitamin E range has its distinctive light pink colour too.
How it works
Using wheat germ oil extract rich in Vitamin E works through its double action. First, it removes dirt and excess oil trapped in pores, as well as moisturises and protects the skin to leave it refreshed and cleansed.
How to use
The toner isn't oil free, but it is very soft and light to the touch and only needs as much of oily residue that the skin needs. It smells delicately of roses and of something that is a faint alcohol smell to my nose. It certainly doesn't smell exotic but it perfectly does the job.
I use it as a twice a day toning routine after cleansing with Elemis Tri-Enzyme Facial Wash. I use a cotton pad and wipe my face, throat and back of neck. I recently started doing it as I know that we ought to treat our neck area as well because it's just as delicate as the skin on our face and is prone to dehydration.
Results
- Before moisturising
The result is great, moisturised skin that feels cleansed and refreshed. As I finish the facial wash by splashing some warm / cool water on then patting it dry with a towel, I'm sure it doesn't leave my skin completely clean. So it's necessary to tone before I put any day / night cream on, otherwise any remaining impurities would block the creams to fully work.
- Before applying eye cream
I now have normal skin most of the time after having been using hypo-allergenic products for the past 1.5 years, though I sometimes tend to become dehydrated around the eye contour area. This means that around the eyes, if I apply an eye cream immediately after cleansing, it will sting and irritate my skin a bit. So to prevent this, the Vitamin E Toner is a godsend as it replenishes the eye contour with the missing oils, and actually helps the cream to be absorbed more easily.
How long does it last?
Using it twice daily, in the past 2 months I only used up about ¾ of the 200ml bottle. I'm using it generously, having said that, depending on skin type or if only used on the face, you may need less to cover the areas. The oil content in the toner actually spreads very well and doesn't sink in and goes wasted in the cotton pad.
Conclusion
I absolutely recommend this product if you have fragile, delicate, sensitive skin. It is not an oil-free toner, but a highly moisturising one that will leave your skin soft, nourished and protected.
Price / Where to buy
The full size product costs £6 / 200ml at the Body Shop or you can snap it up form around £4 - £4.50 including postage on Ebay.
Advantages: Cleanses well, feels fresh, doesn't tighten skin, bottle lasts a long time Disadvantages: Not sure it hydrates like it says it does
...my skincare, if only for the fact that I need to remove my makeup at the end of the day. I do have phases of routinely using my cleanser, toner and moisturiser, but I admit I slip out of the habit after a week or so, my skin is so well-behaved besides being dry that I get by with minimal effort.
These days to remove my makeup I use Body Shop's Vitamin E Cream Cleaner, have always liked the moisturiser from that range, and have had this toner a while ... ...after using cleanser to remove the last traces of my makeup and am really getting along with it.
THE PRODUCT
Part of the extensive Vitamin E range, this toner is alcohol free and "moisturises, protects and conditions". It is suitable for all skin types but as someone with dry skin issues I can vouch for the fact that it doesn't tighten skin which I have had problems with in the past.
It comes in a 200ml bottle with a flip top, identical to the ...

...changed rather a lot over the years, ranging from giving up on trying, when I was an impatient teen to trying too hard and making things worse, to just settling my skin and doing what's best for it. I think that I am now doing the latter of the three. I have tried countless lotions, potions and miracle cures for my slightly spot prone, combination skin. I am going to get spots no matter what I use on my skin as they are down to my hormone issues ... ...which I actually really liked, the thing is it was the only toner I had tried so knew no different. It left my skin very clean, smelt quite nice but left my skin tingly, which now that I have no longer got the bottle assume was from menthol. I decided that I would try something different from either Lush or The Body Shop. I looked at all my options on the websites of the two stores to decide which would be the best for my skin. I decided that the ...

...am a huge fan of The Body Shop in general and have so far been highly complimentary about their products I have used, despite them being a bit more on the pricier side. ~~Packaging~~ The toner is a part of the Vitamin E range and therefore matches all the other products in this range. Advantages: Body Shop, doubles up as make up remover, hydrating. Disadvantages: None.
I have used toners over the years because I felt that I am suposed to, it prepares your skin for moisturising, it is part of a skin care routine. I have then religiously bought toner along with my cleanser and moisturiser without really being impressed with a single one, until I came accross The Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner.
Hydrating.
* * * * * * * * I must admit when I bought this toner I was specifcally looking for one with hydrating ... ...skin is a bit on the dry side at times, I did not feel that I would benefit going away from one that hydrates as I did not want my skin condition to deteriorate (even though I couldn`t really notice the difference anway), so hydrating was the first thing that caught my eye. Being Body Shop I knew I couldn`t go wrong so into my shopping basket it went (on line).

Advantages: Does its job perfectly, great for normal skin Disadvantages: Body Shop prices! Is quite expensive for the full size bottle
Well I bought The Body Shop vitamin E facial set, which ultimately included cream cleanser, moisurising cream, night cream as well as this toner... so I only sampled the smaller version, but it's the same stuff. I just have been unable to afford the larger bottle yet at approx £8! Anyways though, if you can afford this range of skin products I'd def recommend it - they're wonderful products. The smell is nice, and after using the toner your face ...
