Advantages: Brilliant, timeless stories Disadvantages: Language can be hard to understand in places
When you think of EnidBlyton's works what springs to mind? Maybe the adventures experienced by the Famous Five? How about the escapades of the Secret Seven? Or the loveable Noddy and friends? These are all well known stories that out parents read to us and in some cases we are reading to our children. But what about the adventures of Jo, Bessie and Fanny? Or the funny ways of the Saucepot Man? Or Moon-Face, the man with a great beaming, round face along with a great beaming smile? Hmm, they're not so well known!
The Enchanted Wood is a brilliant read, full of mystery and delightful enchantment, things I constantly daydreamed about and desired! Let me start from the beginning.
About Enid
I have to confess, even though I knew the name well, I didn't really have any idea about the individual behind that name. I ...
Advantages: excellent, magical, well written children's book Disadvantages: slightly dated now
I'm now back at school - and in a recent English lesson, we were asked to think about which books, if any, we enjoyed when we were younger. After thinking about The Enchanted Wood, and all of it's follow-ups, for a few days, I pulled out the book from somewhere deep inside my bedroom and started to read it, and remembered how much I liked it when I was ...
Advantages: Very enjoyable. Pure Enid Blyton stuff. Disadvantages: Besides the kind concept of children managing the school being hard to digest, nothing else.
If you feel EnidBlyton's books are only for children please don't let it prejudice you against this wonderful piece of art. It's hilarious. The naughtiest girl series, by EnidBlyton are probably the best ones she's written.
I had years back read 'The naughtiest girl in school' and thereafter every week would be a race to issue the copy before any one else got hold of it because it was the only copy in the library and at that age all of us were crazy about EnidBlyton's books.
Over the years I forgot about it. but about a few months back my brother got 'The naughtiest girl in school' from his library and I got all nostalgic and read it again. Surprise! It still had it's moments and i could laugh all over again.
He also brought 'The naughtiest girl again' and 'The naughtiest girl is a monitor'. Believe me it's a joy to read those books ...
