I can in contact with a women who believes in a lot spirituality and I was going though a phrase where I didn't know where I was going in life. I had no goals, I was incredibly lonely and I felt I needed some guidance. I do believe that as well as our body and mind, we have a soul. This soul, like our bodies and minds needs to be looked after, exercised and expanded. This book gave me all that.. and more.
Celestine Prophecy is a non fictional book about a man who follows his heart and goes to Peru to find a manuscript. This manuscript had 9 Insights and each Insight was to be found in different places. This journey to Peru took him through a higher level of awareness.
The Insights were like instructions to become aware of yourself, others around you, and the universe. What powers us, drives us, and why do we do what we do. What is the reason are we all here for? Why do we come in contact with people, who are similar to ourselves?
This book wont answer these questions for you... but it will make you think.
The 9 insights are as follows.
1..A Critical Mass.
An spiritual awakening that happens within ourselves, and the human race. We start to meet people who share our same interests, have the same childhood, or have been though similar life experiences. Coincidences start to happen. You know, you are thinking about someone, and a few hours later you bump into them or they ring you. Or letter might arrive from them , telling you that something has happened. Coincidence? Critical Mass is about these coincidences, and if you listen to your intuition, how they guide you through life. Many thousands of years ago, we relied on our instincts / intuition to hunt, to fight and to life, but where is it now. In this technological world we have lost it . But we still have it deep in our subconscious, we just need to access it. Dreams are another way we show intuition. If you read the signs and ask a question before you go to sleep, you intuition will answer you. I have done this twice with my unborn children. I asked what I was having whilst I was pregnant and both times I dreamt of girls. I now have two beautiful daughters. I know you are thinking "Its 50/50, just a coincidence". That is my point. We need to listen to that intuition and trust
our "gut feelings" It comes naturally to some but not to others. Sometimes it can be right or wrong .... but you need to read the signs that are given by your intuition. This is what the second insight is all about.
2.. The longer now: Expanding the historical content.
In history we have been through so much. After the collapse of the medieval world, we lost it the security the church gave us about the world we lived in. We started to focus on mastering nature, and using the science and technology to settle our world. We now push away the mysterious aspect of life, for a life we can explain, is predictable, and were no event in our life is not connected. Contrary, all events are linked, and because the world, nature and the universe is bigger than we can ever imagine .. it is truly a mysterious world. My awakening has begun, my mind is open to more and more. Instead of trying to be technical and logical all the time. I try and trust my instinct, I believe in the mysterious world. Not just about the spiritual side, but the wonder of the world we live in. Why the flowers bloom. How peaceful it is when you walk in the woods. Just take a moment in this busy world and think. Think about who you would like to chat too. Where in the world you would like to go and visit. Make a list and set your goals. Trust in your intuition and open your heart.
3...A matter of Energy.
Did you know you can not create or destroy energy, it is just one continual circle? Everything living has energy. The trees, grass and us. Most of you reading this have heard about auras. I know a lots of people who think that its a load of rubbish too. An aura is the energy field that is produced from something living. So why cant we see it. Just like tuning into your intuition, it takes time, practice and.. trust. Trust in the world and yourself. We see light in the effect of colour don't we? Different colours vibrate at a different frequency. At the lower end of the spectrum is red, and the upper end is violet. It continues way above and below what we can see. Below red you have infrared and above violet, there is ultra violet, gamma rays and X-rays. Could it be that auras are just that, an extension of our physical body? This insight looks at the effects of energy in our lives, how we can use it, and how to get an endless supply.. which comes from the earth and nature itself
4.. The Struggle for Power.
This insight tells about how we compete for this energy that is talked about. Arguments, and all interactions between people either "win" or "lose". If the balance is perfect then you have free flowing energy between two people. Have you ever had a row with someone and you have either felt strong (wining), or weak (losing). This is because of the exchange of energy between you. If you are wining, you are taking the other persons energy, making them weak. If you feel weak its because you are not connected with nature and all that endless energy. This happens in all human interacting. Some people you meet we drain you. This is because they are taking your energy but you are not receiving any, either from them or from the universe. Its the same with when you meet someone and you feel energised. This person has given their energy freely to you and you must make sure you give some back.
I have been in these situations too. I can across lots of people who drain me of my energy, and my time too. You have to look at why you are coming in contact with these people. What lesson can you learn from them? Some people dominate or manipulate you and this is what is known as a struggle for power. You need to find a way of connecting to this endless energy source and stop the power struggle by stopping the cycle of dominating people.
5.. Message of the Mystics
This insight is about an altered state, quite similar to mediation. Your senses become heightened. An awareness of sharpness of colour, smell, taste, touch, and love. You body becomes light, buoyant even. This in the fifth insight is known as a mystical experience. We should all have love in our hearts, not for someone or something, but as a constant feeling. If you open your heart, you have that connection with your higher self. Learn to love unconditionally, without expecting a reward. If we can do this, we no longer need to take energy from others, we can connect to nature and get it from there.
6.. Clearing the Past
This insight concentrates on the awareness of why we take energy from others and how to break the circle. We manipulate people in a few ways, generally either by being passive (being a victim or poor me) or aggressive( interrogator or critic). We have to break the circle of how we react to people. An analysis of your childhood can reveal how we react to others. Once we can forgive others and we can see deeper reasons why we are who we are.
7.. Engaging the Flow
The awareness of the subconscious and conscious emerge. Day to day we grow and understand our goals. We ask questions to our higher selves and the answer comes by a message. By a dream, a chance meeting, thoughts, "gut feelings" or by coincidence .Each answer leads to a new question which takes us on our journey though life and our spiritual paths.
8.. A New Personal Perspective on Relationships
If we no longer compete with others for this energy, we can start lifting others up with our energy, focusing on the beauty, seeing within. This uplifting can be used every where. Especially with children and within romantic relationships. To uplift children we must speak with integrity. To their higher self wisdom, which is surprisingly simple. Its us adults who make things complicated. People talk of Euphoria, well this is the way forward.
9... The Emerging Culture.
Like all energy as it moves and uplifts it vibrates higher and higher. This is what could happen with us. We could uplift ourselves so high that we can free ourselves from the mundane life and start to go where our higher self wants to be. We could get that job, without the doubt, or the "what ifs " Not only that but we could uplift so high that we could become pure energy. What? ..I hear you say and think. Like I said all living things have energy ..we could free ourselves from the physical world and live like pure energy. We could end the birth/death cycle and no longer fear.. what happens next.
I have concentrated on the insights rather than what happened within the book because of a few reasons.
The story in itself is only medium to make you understand what spirituality is about. You can apply the insights to your daily life and even if you understand and succeed in the first 2 or 3, you are on the road to make yourself a better person. I believe that we all have a higher self. We do listen to our intuition, but it needs to be tuned in, like a radio, to the right station. How many times have you had a " GUT FEELING" about something, and it has been right. This is your intuition speaking, that soft voice in your heart. Prehistoric man used his intuition to hunt, to find a mate and to live. In this day of science, we have lost our intuition, yet sometimes it pays to listen to that voice.
I know that whatever you make of this opinion ..whether you think the idea of the higher self is rubbish or could be plausible, you will be pondering on what you can do to improve the quality of your life. If you feel restless, itchy feet, or don't like what you are doing at the moment. It is time to listen to your higher self, you intuition and make the change for a better, for-filling life.
I don't fully understand all the insights, infact, I can only fully understand the first 5. I meditate very regularly and over the last year or so, I have got questions to answers I have asked my higher self. I do believe that you do meet and connect with people for reasons, and if you ask the right question, you'll get an answer. I also believe that things do happen for a reason, we just have to find it. I think that we are destined to end up someplace in our life, but there are so many roads to choose from.

I am somewhat less convinced now than I was at the time of reading. I think it gives some invaluable insights - I particularly like what it says about coincidences - however, I cannot say that I have really been able to incorporate most of this into my life. My all-time life-changing book was Audrey Rose (now out of print), a fictional account of reincarnation. Once read, I could never again believe that reincarnation did not exist.
