This book DID change my life. Of all things, I chose to read it because an idol of mine at the time advocated it, but once I'd read chapter one I was hooked. Not only hooked, but stunned at how the information coming through the story was SO relevant to my life...

Probably of most value to those who have cast a thought or two towards spiritual matters anyway, and are just awakening to their spirituality, this book can be a revelation - IF you're open, IF you're ready, and IF you're willing to suspend disbelief.

I'll tell you what, I'm SO glad I picked it up when I did.

The Celestine Prophecy is a spiritual adventure story, but rooted in real beliefs held by the New Age community, as I've since found. It's a bit like a parable in that it's fiction, but lots of fact-based theories in the background that it illustrates. It centres around an unnamed character who begins on his journey by discovering that all of human history has been geared towards a spiritual evolution when humanity reaches a 'critical mass' and sees that his own beliefs and feelings reflect this theory. He then begins his quest which takes him through the Nine Insights...nine guiding principles which rule and enhance life here on earth, should we choose to embrace them. Not only is it compelling to find out what the next insight will say and whether it will resonate with something you've noticed in your own life, they are full of ideas and advice that really do benefit your life, whether or not you ultimately believe in the spiritual revolution the book seems to hint at! Put it this way, following the advice here won't do you any harm!

In fact, it will teach you to realise that the idea of coincidence is highly unlikely and to watch out for coincidences and act on them, as they are 'synchronicities' or signposts on our path; that meditation and contemplation of nature will enhance your experience of life on earth; that other people are really a mirror of ourselves and we are ultimately responsible for the way others act towards us; that we are headed for a spiritual renaissance and it is up to us whether we embrace it...

James Redfield has also written various other books developing this story. The Tenth Insight, the next in the trilogy, develops it perfectly and looks in-depth at many aspects of spirituality in story form. The Secret of Shambala is the last to date, but unfortunately neither as engaging or as useful when applied to real life as the other two. If the first two books do inspire you to make changes in your life, James Redfield has teamed up with Carol Adrienne to provide two self-help books called 'the experiential guides' based on The Celestine Prophecy and The Tenth Insight...I have the second one and it did help me at a rough time in my life. He has also written The Celestine Vision, an overview of the Insights in more of a non-fiction form which, for some reason I didn't understand, was more expensive than the novels which are infinitely more enjoyable!

However, back to The Celestine Prophecy, and to make the point that if you're going to read this set of books, they really are intended to be read in order, and many of the points in The Tenth Insight are just skimmed over because they are presented in detail in the first book. So I recommend you start at the beginning! You can purchase The Celestine Prophecy from most good bookshops, and most will be able to order it for you if not in stock, as it's such a well-known title. It costs 7.99 and can be ordered from Amazon.co.uk for 6.39 (but remember that doesn't include p&p.) If you need to order the book, the publisher is Bantam Books and the ISBN is 0-553-40902-6.

Highly empowering, hugely entertaining and indescribably inspiring, if you let it, The Celestine Prophecy will lift your soul and soothe your heart. It will provide amazing insights on ways to handle the major aspects of your life and gives a spiritual perspective and delivers New Age ideas without being inaccessible to those with no previous interest. Because it is written as a story, it has that timeless, universal quality of being able to be whatever you want it to be...a fun adventure, escapism, good advice, a new perspective, or a way of life. To me, it is truly a modern classic and a must-read of these times. Don't knock it til you've tried it...and you might just be surprised, or, even more alarmingly, inspired to do more, be more, and live fully in the moment.
