A real thought-provoker

Advantages A real page turner.
Disadvantages Not light reading.
In light of the current US controversy about the death penalty, this book definitely makes the reader rethink the issue of the death penalty. The story begins in 1967 in Mississippi where a known Klu Klux Klan member, Sam Cayhall, is accused of bombing the law offices of a Jewish civil rights activist. His initial two trials with all-white juries end in mistrials. Twelve years later, a mixed jury convicts Cayhall and he is sentenced to death.
In 1990, a young attorney, Adam Hall, asks to work on the case. Adam has a very special reason for wanting to work on this case and the book proceeds to hold the reader captive and it's impossible to put the book down.
