Early on in May I decided to buy myself a brand new laptop (mainly so I could sit in trendy coffee bars looking cool).
After looking around a few places for the best price and system specification, I finally found The Computer Shop tucked away in one of the more unpopular areas of the city centre. As soon as I went in I was impressed by the prices and the specs, plus the salesman seemed all too eager to help (I should have realised this was a bad omen, guess I was blinded by the prices and shiny technical things glistening in the shop lights - something like a nerd magpie.)
Anyway, I decided on the laptop that I wanted at £499 and went to sit down with the salesman for a gentlemanly exchange of cash and details. Oh, wait. Suddenly it's not £499 - it's about £540 because I have to pay for delivery TO THE STORE. How I wish i'd have walked out at that point.
OK, I thought, fair enough. They have to make their profit somewhere right? So I handed over my money (i'm starting to feel sick right now as I type this.) The agreement was that the laptop would arrive in a maximum of 10 working days - I wasn't happy with this as I wanted my hands on my new toy - so the salesman, seeing his sale start to slip away reassured me that it would often take just a few working days. Joy, I thought. How wrong I was.
Nearly 2 months later I still don't have my laptop. I've made three telephone calls and the store have promised to look into whats going on and get back to me - they never have despite having 2 contact numbers. I've been into the store and again they told me that they would be in touch. Guess what? Not a dicky bird.
I contacted them again and asked for a refund, their response - "Oh, head office deal with that sort of thing."
They gave me the telephone number for the head office which turned out to be the head office - just not of their company.
Now i've referred the case to Trading Standards and it looks like I might have to go to the Small Claims Court to get my cash back.
The Computer Shop just do not care after you've paid your money. They've lied and avoided any contact with me. Give me Ebola any day.
Just as a last note, The Computer Shop is part of the Granville group of companies which includes Tiny Computers (tiny.com) and Time Computers (Yes, the ones that were on BBC watchdog.) I wish i'd have done my research sooner - just do a google search for "tiny computers complaints" and see what comes up (particulary on the romulus2.com forums.)
Please avoid these people.

Its disgusting what companies like this think they can get away with. I do hope you get your money back with interest added. :-)

Good luck on getting your money back - I hope it will be easier than small claim's court. Welcome to Ciao. x
