Robert Rankin is a genius

Advantages: It makes you use your brain in ways you never have before.
Disadvantages: none that I can think of.

The greatest show off Earth was the first Robert Rankin book I ever read and now he's my favourite author. I'll give you a basic idea of what the book's about but I'll try not to give too much away! There are two main characters, Raymond and Simon. Raymond is your average beer drinking 23 year old who loves life and tries to make everybody happy. One day he gets abducted by a flying starfish from Uranus and gets sold as food on the venusian market! He gets rescued by a flying circus, meets the girl of his dreams and gets told he's to save the world from a strange race who live above us although we can't see them!!! While all of this is going on, Simon is still on Earth. He's a bit of a lad and will sleep with anybody (which makes his girlfriend angry) but that's the least of his worries because he too has to save the world from ...

Review of The Greatest Show Off Earth - Robert Rankin

A good one from Robert Rankin

Advantages: Another great book
Disadvantages: Wot, no Brentford?

I was beginning to think Robert Rankin's books were going off a bit. Oh dear, oh dear. Was he about to become another writer who churns things out to order? Had he lost his touch or his enthusiasm? Had the great well of humour and sheer absurdity finally dried up? It was relief when I picked up a copy of "The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse" and realised that all was well again. If you've never read a Robert Rankin book prepare to be engaged by a fine writer of fantasy fiction. You will quickly become addicted to his unusual style and the sheer brilliance of his inventiveness. The running gags are all there and they're just as funny as ever. In The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse Jack is a young boy who sets off to seek his fortune. He is surprised to find himself in Toy City and even more surprised ...

Rankin among some of the best

Advantages: It's written by Robert Rankin
Disadvantages: Still trying to think of one...

to people we know. The colourful language used in the first chapter draws you straight in, and before you know it you're halfway through the book. The Brentford Trilogy are some of my favourite books I've ever written, and looking at other people's reviews, you can see Rankin is a very popular author. If you've read this author before, this book is his usual dry humour. For new people, I would recommend the author very highly as anything of his is extremely easy to get into and finish in a couple of days. For me, the 283 pages lasted me less than a week. If you're looking for a good read while on holiday, pick up a Robert Rankin in any way you can! ...
