Advantages Advantages Excellent story, non stop action

Disadvantages Disadvantages Could really terrify some children.

After reading the Young Bond series by Charlie Higson, I decided to give this book a try for two reasons. The first was that I really loved the Young Bond series and was very disappointed to see it end. I may not be the right age group for this series, but it was very well written, with excellent character development, plenty of action and adventure and none of the mushy stuff. They were also wonderful books to share with my son. The second reason for buying this book is that my son had asked for it. I felt I could read it first and then we could read it together. I always read the books ... more

Advantages Advantages convincing characterisation; engaging plotline

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none for me

The premise ‘The Enemy’ presents itself as a thoroughly chilling story of zombie devastation. The cover of the hardback edition is adorned with grotesque blue skulls which seem to leer at you. The tagline is brutal: They’ll Chase You. They’ll Rip You Open. They’ll Feed On You. It is marketed like a horror film (you can watch a rather creepy advertisement from Puffin on YouTube) and labelled with a WARNING – contains strong language and scenes of violence – so it might come as a slight surprise to realise that this book is aimed at young teenagers. Charlie Higson, a popular author for the teen ... more

Advantages Advantages Awesome story, great suspense, good amount of violence, Zombies!!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

The Enemy by Charlie Higson is a story about a virus that turns all people over the age of fourteen into mad, raving, filthy zombies plauge the world. This leaves all the children alone to fend for themselves. The story follows a group of children that have made base in a Waitrose supermarket in London and have guarded the perimeter from the 'grown ups' (as the children call the mutated people). They meet a young boy who has travelled all the way from Buckingham Palace, some 20 miles away from their base, and insisted that they return with him to the palace where living is much better. The ... more

Advantages Advantages Interesting, can't put down.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some strange character names.

In my opinion, this book is one of the best books I own. The author has captured the 'zombie apocalypse' theme brilliantly and explained everything with enough detail to satisfy any reader. I think that the author has successfully created a book about both zombies and what it would be like if children could control everything. Wonderful book, would definitely recommend it to any age group. The book is both terrifying and gory - probably shouldn't be read before bed! This book was suggested to me by a friend and I would certainly recommend it to everyone else. If you have not experienced the ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages you never want to put it down

In my opinion The Enemy is a great book for children aged 14-17 the language used by Charlie isnt too complex but not too easy, this book is based on the last surviving children in the world trying to survive, from the parents which were all affected by a virus, which makes them extremly blood thirsty, so whilst the adults are trying to capture all the children so that they can eat and all the children have heard that there is a secret safe at the coast so there mission is to escape the rath of the parents but also try and get to the coast before its too late. No-one gets left behind but no ... more
