Full review
I am writing this review as it was this series of books which got me into reading and I have never stopped reading since.

The Famous Five are 4 Children - Julian, Dick, Ann George and 1 dog Timmy.

Julian is the Oldest aged 12 and very responsible. the others look up to him and ultimately he is in charge. His younger Brother Dick age 11 is more for Fun and Adventure, Their Young Sister is Ann age 10 who is very feminine and sensitive.

Their cousin Georgina who only answers to the name of George aged 11 is a Tom boy and Lives in the small seaside village of Kirrin with her Mother, Father and her beloved dog Timothy better known as Timmy.

At the start on the summer holidays all 4 children meet up and Timmy of course and Trouble always seemed to find them.

In the first book Five on Treasure Island - George meets her cousins for the first time. When a shipwreck surfaces by Kirrin Island after a storm, the children go to investigate in George’s boat to Kirrin Island which incidentally belongs to George. The famous five find a treasure map, Search for hidden treasure, George and Julian are taken prisoner it is up to Dick and Ann to come to the rescue. Can the Five succeed? You will need to read to find out!
A well written adventure that kept my attention through out and the rest of the series of 21 books are no exception. From Camping, Capturing thieves, Solving mysteries, Rescuing Kidnapped people, The adventures are quite different each time but just as captivating.

I was 8 years old when I bought The Famous Five on Treasure Island. I can remember it was 25p and I had just moved to the countryside. I read through it very quickly and couldn't wait for the weekly bus trip by the next book. I had 50p pocket money and used to buy 2 books at the same time.

I thought I was George and wanted my mother to get me Ginger beer which was what the famous five drank, I was so upset that when I tried it wasn't as nice as I had imagined. But I wanted to be like them. But that is what Enid Bolton does, She wrote so well and descriptively it just lets your imagine run wild and want more.

As I said I was 8 years old when I first read these but I used to read 2 or even 3 books a week so the reading age is really dependant on your child’s abilities. But I would recommend these even as bedtime reading for age 6 upwards. Suitable for Boys and Girls.

I have re-read the entire series several times and even now at the age of 36 still love them as much as when I was a child.

The entire series of The Famous Five are:

1. Five On A Treasure Island
2. Five Go Adventuring Again
3. Five Run Away Together
4. Five Go To Smuggler's Top
5. Five Go Off In A Caravan
6. Five On Kirren Island Again
7. Five Go Off To Camp
8. Five Get Into Trouble
9. Five Fall Into Adventure
10. Five On A Hike Together
11. Five Have A Wonderful Time
12. Five Go Down To Sea
13. Five Go To Mystery Moor
14. Five Have Plenty Of Fun
15. Five On A Secret trail
16. Five Go To Billycock Hill
17. Five Get In A Fix
18. Five On Finniston Farm
19. Five Go TO Demon's Rocks
20. Five Have A Mystery To Solve
21. Five Are Together Again

Amazon sell these books these books NEW from £3.30 but used you can get alot cheaper. Definitely well worth every penny.

Enid Blyton's stories have been criticised by some as sexist, racist and focused on Middle class people, But forget the politically correct groupies. These are classic books which child will enjoy for many years to come.
