Advantages: Philip Glenister as the wonderful Gene Hunt, some funny moments. Disadvantages: Poor casting, trying too hard to be Life On Mars
with really odd make up! I won't spoil exactly who pops up in case you haven't seen it but it ties very much in with the Bowie music video of 'AshesToAshes'.
CAST AND CHARACTERS
Although if you've seen the original show you'll be fairly familiar with many of the characters, a lot has happened in the eight years since we saw the gang drive off into the sunset in that copper Cortina. Although on the surface many of them may have stayed the same, it's obvious that some incidents depicted on screen had a huge impact on the way some members of the team looked at policing.
DCI GeneHunt (Philip Glenister) - Known from Life on Mars as the absolute epitome of hard men, GeneHunt is the show's biggest comedy asset; Glenister has a way of barking out the Chief Inspector's one liners in a hilarious but completely believable fashion. However, this ...
Advantages: Some good tracks Disadvantages: Some weak tracks
looks good though with a nice cover featuring Philip Glenister as GeneHunt and Keeley Hawes as Alex.
Here is a brief resume of the tracks and my thoughts and feelings about them.
INTRO - This is Alex's bit from start of show and is spoken by Keeley Hawes. A good way to start this album.
ASHESTOASHES by David Bowie - I didn't like it much before, but really like it now, as it reminds me of the series. I tend to sing along to the "I'm happy, hope you're happy too" bit, as I like that especially. Overall, it's a bit hippy, a bit weird and very of the time, but original.
FADE TO GREY by Visage - I remember this well from time and seeing Steve Strange in his silver paint on Top of the Pops. It is good to hear it again and has aged pretty well.
LOVE ACTION by The Human League - This song does sound a bit dated, very 80s, but I ...
Advantages: A hard act to follow with Life on Mars but it did! Disadvantages: In my opinion none
***Why I watched the AshestoAshes***
AshestoAshes was the long awaited spin off from the fantastic 'Life on Mars' series.
I absolutely loved 'Life on Mars' so I could not wait to watch 'AshestoAshes'. The programme first aired in February 2008 and I watched each episode religiously every week. Since it finished my partner has also purchased the DVD.
***The cast***
Philip Glennister as GeneHunt (Life on Mars, Demons)
Keeley Hawes as Alex Drake (Spooks, Mutual Friends)
Dean Andrews as Ray Carling (Life on Mars, The Street)
Marshall Lancaster as Chris Skelton (Life on Mars, Coronation Street)
***The plot***
The story begins in present time with the shooting of Detective Inspector Alex Drake. Within the first few minutes you can piece together that she is a single mum working for London's Metropolitan Police.
When Alex wakes ...

Manufacturer's product description
Once upon a time coppers were heroes; nowadays, telling someone you're on the force is likely to get you in as much trouble as dipping your tadger in the punch at a Royal Garden Party'. Policing in the seventies was simple: when a crime was committed you tracked a nearby blagger, 'persuaded' him to confess and sent him off for a good long stretch. Simple. Sadly, policing in the eighties is a completely different kettle of fish. In fact, it's a whole different kettle of shoulder-pad-sporting, bouffant-haired, foundation-caked, coke-snorting, race-rioting career criminals. For your average bobby on the beat "The Rules of Modern Policing" are simply no longer enough. Thankfully, however, DCI Gene Hunt is once again on hand to help his fellow officers, and so we have "The Future of Modern Policing". Packed full advice for all ranks, this an invaluable policing manual in which the Gene Genie discusses all the new issues facing the Met - riots, forensics, political correctness (whatever the hell that is), IT, drugs and advanced interrogation techniques that you just might be able to persuade the judge are legal. There are also some practical exercises at the end of each chapter, including a helpful 'Spot the Drug Addict' picture quiz, so, even if you really don't know your arse from your elbow, you can at least learn to blag it. Gene Hunt may not be the most modern copper in the Met but he isn't a fool either. If you want to be one of the Met's top dogs, maybe you should buy his book, eh?
