I went to the Gadget Shop in Birmingham today to do some Christmas shopping. There is a gadget shop in most towns/cities now. They all look the same and sell the same things. This is my first opinion so wish me luck :-) I went to the Gadget Shop in Birmingham today to do some Christmas shopping. There is a gadget shop in most towns/cities now. They all look the same and sell the same things. A glass front with the name in blue lights. The tills are in the middle of the shop, surrounded by a glass topped counter containing things like watches and lighters.
The staff all stand in the middle of the store and the remainder of the goods are displayed in glass cabinets around the edge of the store. Some of the goods are on display openly in the corners. If you want to look at any of the things you have to ask a member of staff to open the cabinets. This has put me off in the past-I understand that some of the goods are fragile, but I like to be able to touch things before making a decision as to whether I will buy them or not.
The layout is my biggest problem with the store. Today as expected just before Christmas, it was very busy, but on many other occasions I have been in and got frustrated at the lack of space. Only one or two people standing in the aisle blocks it to all the other customers. It must be hell for people with pushchairs or wheel chair users.
As for the stock, well as expected, gadgets are the name of the day, with all sorts of things from lamps to clocks on offer. There is a wide selection of novelty lamps such as Mathmos lava lamps, fibre optic flowers and even a revolving police lamp (but don't put it on your car!). There are lots of clocks from inflatable ones to Homer Simpson ones. You can buy "naughty" teddies dressed in bondage gear for £15 and also Miffy and Bagpuss soft toys for the kids (better not give them a naughty teddy though!) They also sell phone cases and some great lighters such as ones with a union jack on and flurescent spiky ones for £4. Take my tip though and buy your inflatable chair from Argos instead of here as it is cheaper and more comfortable!
The prices start from a few pounds and go up into the hundreds, so it's suitable for all budgets. Everything I have bought from there I have had no problems with. My favourite has to be the wind up radio for £25 and glow in the dark stars for £3. If you are looking for a present that is slightly different, check the gadget shop out.
The staff are all young and trendy types in my experience and they are all friendly although not especially knowledgable about the products. There always seems to be a lot of staff on duty so the queues are never too long, so that's one bonus. One thing I have found is that the stock does not seem to change very often so it is not worth going in every week to see the new arrivals as there very often won't be any!
Well, that's it and I just have one thing to finish with-
Advantages: Great stuff Disadvantages: Often long queues
...you a question: When was the last time you find it difficult to buy someone a pressie for their birthday or christmas? Pretty recently right? Wouldn't you love to find a shop that is guaranteed to sell items that your loved ones would love to receive? Then look no further and read on....
The gadget shop is a store which sells a vast array of products which have a sci-fi, wierd, wacky, unusual feel to them. The store has come a long way in the past ... ...things, don't you? You know the lamps which seem to have electricity running through the surface which you just have to touch and fondle with your hand and shout to your partner "hey look, the electricity is on my hand!!!!!", hmmmm..... They also have lava lamps which look sooooo 70's and retro and brighten up any dull corner in your house. Inflatable chairs: These are ideal for rooms in your house where you just feel the need to crash out but dont ...

The gadget shop is a shop full of different gadgets. It is a small shop, but has plenty of different items to choose from.
people of all ages go here, but you do seem to find more adults than children in here. It's a shop fot eh big kids really. Both me and my husband love going in this shop, and we're both big kids at heart.
Some of the things the gadget shop sells are:-
Singing fish (billy bass)
Lava lamps
Disco ball
Shot glasses
cuddly ... ...As well as going to the shop, you can also go on line at www.gadgetshop.com I've not actually tried this site out yet though as i just go the shop.
You can spend hours looking at all the gadgets in this shop.
The shop is usually very busy when i have been in there, and as it's a small shop, there isn't much space to move around really. The queue's can be quite long too, but you do not wait too long as they usually have more than one person serving ...

Advantages: Bright, well displayed, interactive approach. Disadvantages: Easy to spend all day there.
...there is one shop in the city centre that is an absolute must when I am in town shopping with the children it's the gadget shop. Please note that when I say children I do include the 40 year old slightly balding man that likes to follow me around making tutting noises whenever I open my purse.
The Gadget shop in Nottingham is actually rather small but the space is used extremely well. Most of the stock is stored in large glass cabinets that span ... ...from sticky fingers and hiding the more risqué examples from small, inquisitive eyes. The great thing about this practical use of space is that it leaves the centre of the shop clear for all sorts of toys, games and gadgets to be displayed where they can be touched, played with and generally enjoyed. The shop is brightly lit and everything is very nicely displayed and more importantly, clearly priced.
This particular shop sends out a very clear ...

...geek, I couldn't resist visiting the gadget shop's website after reading a review by another ciao member.
The name "gadget shop" conjured up all kinds of imagery in my mind of high tech gadgets, and things with lots of buttons and lights... I was intrigued...
The webpage is quite stylish in a purple and white colourscheme, but not as techie and futuristic as the name could suggest.
On the left of the screen there are general navigation links to ... ...and help for example.
The home page opens and some recent bargains are listed, as is a banner indicating that they are currently in the middle of a mid season sale (hoora!)
They stock a huge range of items, quite a few that you aren't likely to find elsewhere. Not all of their stock are techie gadgets, but they do boast a good variety that have novelty value. Delivery is free in the uk, and as stated on their homepage returns are also free if not ...

Advantages: excellent staff, layout and choice Disadvantages: sometimes busy
The Gadget Shop is a godsend for buying those impossible presents for men/boys. In my family, there is my dad, and two brothers, and my mum, I find it incredibly hard to find presents for both of my brothers, and my dad. The Gadget shop is very helpful! There is a range of gifts, from just a few pounds to hundreds. I like the layout of the shops, so that products can be tested and played with. There has obviously been a lot of money pumped into these ... ...supplies many different gadgets to the other stores. The prices are reasonable, and quality very good. The staff are always eager to show you how something works, and what it can do, and will open display cabinets for you with no fuss. I like the way this shop operates, and it makes buying presents a lot easier. The range of products suits most ages and interests, with table football games for young boys, and then Jet Skis, for those older, daring ...

Advantages: Stock changes weekly so always something different Disadvantages: Stock changes weekly so you could miss out on items
If you have never been into a Tchibo shop you will be forgiven for thinking it is a gadgetshop or something for electrical items as looking just in the windows you cannot tell what this shop sells.
On entering the store you will be pleasantly surprised at the things they stock.
Every week they have a different scheme so you can never be sure what will be in stock.
This weeks scheme was Adventure holiday and they had a good arrangement of everything for the holiday from clothes and equipment to first aid kits. Everything is reasonably priced. The first aid kit comes with a booklet even containing emergency life saving advice.
The only snag with this is if like me you go in and see something and think you will probably buy that the next week, you will find that next week they do not stock it.
Every week so far ...
Advantages: Some novelty items Disadvantages: Poor stock levels, little choice
I used to enjoy shopping at our local Tandy Store until that is it started going down hill.
As an electronics enthusiast I used to be able to purchase most of the components and accessories I required for my projects from here. Sadly they no longer stock these items and there range of products is now some what limited which is a real shame.
As an electrical retailer the product line they offer is quite poor although you will find they sell some items you will not find in other major electrical retailers such as novelty electronic gadgets, electronic toys and the like.
I still shop there from time to time but no longer with the frequency (no pun intended) that I used to.
The shop always appears bare and somewhat devoid of goods these days.
Staff are not well informed and appear bored most of the time.
Only a 5/10 I ...
