I got this game for Christmas as a surprise present from my wife, I was hoping for Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City and had not even heard of The Getaway.

I was a little suspicious of how good the game would actually be, as I had not heard of it, and was astounded at the quality as soon as it had loaded the initial menu selection screen.

The initial screens are presented in a very stylish, retro way and the menus are quick and easy to navigate.

After loading the first level, you watch a brief introduction to the plot of the game. These cut scenes appear at the start of each level, and although you have no choice but to watch them, their quality more than makes up for this. Not only are the graphics supurb, but the dialogue itself is both funny and intelligent - like something out of the film Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels.

Each level is split between two types of play, driving around a very realistic and accurate virtual London, and then an up close and personal action section. The driving is of at least an equal par to that of the GTA3 games and there is a wide choice of cars to drive (including the ultra-sexy Nissan Skyline!)

The fighting sections of each level, as every other aspect of this game, are excellent. You have a range of actions and and movements including my personal favourite, taking someone hostage and using them as a body shield.

A superb twist in the game lets you play the game again from the perspective of policeman involved in the case of hunting down the main character.

I love the fact that's set in Britain, and I love the fact that the character's consist mostly of Cockney geezers!

All in all, this is one of the greatest games constructed so far for the PS2. Buy it. Now.
