Advantages: excellent role playing with great story Disadvantages: none

This game is taken from the movie & does include several movie clips, the graphics are good & the story easy to follow, it is easy to become all 3 playable characters Lyra, Pan & Iorek which is what you want from a role playing game.

A great role playing game suitable for ages 10+, I think younger children may have difficulity with some of the challenges including de-coding the golden compass' symbols which is required to progress in the game.

The main character is Lyra who from the comfort of her college in Oxford embarks on an epic adventure that takes her to the icy kingdoms of the north where her goal is to save the children who have been kidnapped by the gobblers because if she does not rescue them they undergo something more painful than death!!!
As Lyra is a small child she is unable to accomplish this on her own so she calls forward other characters that will help her on her journey including Pan her trusted Daemon & Iorek a huge white ice bear who used to be part of an army until he was defeated by their current king.
One of Lyras most precious tools is the golden compass (the Alethiometer) which gives the answers to some perplexing questions when the symbols are in the correct alignment, in order to work the golden compass you first need to work out what the symbols mean. This is such a precious tool that it is important not to get caught using it by those that work for the gobblers or any of the other enermies Lyra encounters on her journey.
Lyra, Iorek & Pan will encounter soldiers, people, outlaws, witches & a host of other unsavory characters including Ioreks old army throughout their journey & battles are plentiful.
Will Lyra escape her captives, will she beable to rescue those unfortunate children before they meet a fate worse than death, can she work out the meanings of the symbols of the golden compass & beat the battle of the witch queen, will Iorek overcome his old army who humiliated him and cast him out, will Lyra's uncle be saved?????
Definitely worth the money - great story & plenty of stimulation - nice to have a good combination of story, characters, battles, & puzzels
The game has plenty of variety to keep the stimulation going including problem solving, mini games, battles, lateral thinking as well as of course the story line & strong characters.
By gaining collectables & pickups throughout the game you give Lyra a better chance of winning the mini games (the mini games are an essential part of the main game & you will have to complete them in order to progress, again this adds to the game play).Definitely worth buying:
Story & Characters are great
Loads of stimulation both with battles as well as puzzels & challenges etc. which can be deemed educational.
Graphics are good & the movie clips help bring a sense of reality
Advantages: ermm.. follows the book a little Disadvantages: bad gameplay, poor graphics, bad camera/control
...then when they were making the film they changed the name to The Golden Compass. If you have read the book you'll know most of the characters like Lyra, Pan roger or Lorek. If you've seen the movie you'll find the game really broken with bad control quality and dead graphics, like the Chronicles of Narnia which was another broken game that a load of people bought and found out that it was awful. Gameplay really straight forward when you're playing ... ...is very easy to get the hang of, your mostly defending from enemies, and slashing them with your bare hands. The graphics look a bit dull, especially from SEGA, which have once again messed up another game like Sonic the Hedgehog on 306 or PS3. Sound wise you mostly hear the same music and same speeches from the characters which is annoying. 4/10 ...
