BY JOVE I THINK I'VE GOT IT.

Advantages: Engaging, informative, un-assuming and clear.
Disadvantages: None.

I recently embarked upon an Open University (OU) Degree. 'Discovering Science' is my first course. When the OU send out the materials, they enclose a list of set books for your course. 'The sciences good study guide' is the book recommended for my particular course. The book is written by: Andrew Northedge, Jeff Thomas, Andrew Lane and Alice Peasgood. It is published by: The Open University. The book is generally for anybody studying mathematics, sciences and technology (including engineering). However, it was written in the first instance for people studying either, S103 Discovering Science or S280 Science Matters: with the Open University. Its premise is to improve study skills, in those subjects. - Chapter 1 - Getting started This chapter makes you think about how you study, when is the best times to study, what ...

Mature Student's Study Guide: No More, No Less.

Advantages: Lots of information, extremely clear and helpful
Disadvantages: Over-explains and doesn't motivate or inspire

The Mature Student?s Study Guide is straightforward and does exactly what it says on the tin: it?s designed to help people returning to education ? whether it?s after a gap of 5 years or 50. The advice is fairy basic, but covers everything: the idea is to use the Study Guide as a starting point before referring to other books to tackle any problem areas. It is designed for both attending a college or university and distance learning, although the content applies more to degree courses. The first chapters are only mildly helpful. They are: ?Learning How To Learn?, ?Preparing for Study?, ?Organizing Your Study?, ?Enhancing Your Reading Skills?, ?Enhancing Your Writing Skills? and ?Enhancing Your Mathematical and Scientific Skills?. I suspect that they would be more useful to someone returning to education after a longer time or to ...

This book provides the basis for science study

Advantages: Very good book for long time non reader to help explore scientific fields as well as reference book for the experienced science student
Disadvantages: Doesnot include very complicated scientific stuffs but provides very useful basics

I had been away from school for 4 years and I had forgotten most of the basic scientific formulae and theories. This book was provided by the Open University and I was to undergo a science course. I was nervous whether I will be able to cope with the tough formulae and theories of science... but as I took this book as reference for the basics of science, whenever I felt lost, i referred to this book and there it was the basics to help me overcome the problem... This book is written in simple english language that made me easy to learn basics of science. I would recommend this book to anyone who is undertake science subject... as this book helps the new learners of science as well as provide good reference to the basics of science for the experienced science students. ...
