The Heinz Beanz book is published by Hamlyn and written by David Morgan and Cara Frost-Sharratt and is full of interesting information on the Iconic bean!
The book is the colour of the label of a tin of Heinz beans and features the now iconic label. It looks good in a graphic design way and makes for an attractive coffee table book or something interesting to leave in the loo for a little read now and then. It’s not a huge book being just a little narrower than a sheet of A4 and about two thirds of the height. It has 64 pages so it isn’t a long read but an interesting on none the less. The book contains history, trivia and recipes and it gives a great insight into how the humble dish of beans in tomato sauce has secured it’s place as an important part of our social history.
The recipes contained are all reasonable simple and cheap to make but some are a little surprising like bean and 3 cheese ravioli and even bean and pepper sushi! I’ve made a few and they were tasty as long as you like beans. Beans are actually good for you as well being a really good addition to a cardio proactive, (heart healthy), diet.
The photographs included range from historic shots relating to Heinz beans and really lovely glossy photos of the recipes included and they all look really good and add to the eye candy appeal of the book.
I picked up the book for a mere 25p from a charity shop brand new, they had a whole box of them actually so maybe it wasn’t as popular as the publisher thought but I really like it. The cover price is £6.99 which I think is steep but they are available new on Amazon for £4.73 or used from 1p which is much better and it’s definitely worth picking p a cheap copy if you see one. I think this would make a good present for a student or even a funny ‘Secret Santa’ gift. There are a whole range of these books too for things like Heinz Tomato Ketchup and Coleman’s Mustard which I’ve added to Amazon wish list!
