NOT THE HIGHWAY CODE is the unofficial 'rules of the road' that everyone knows but for ... more
some reason are not covered by the official HIGHWAY CODE...Where is the rule that states: if traffic lights turn amber as you approach them put your foot down and drive as fast as you can? Where is the rule that says diversions never ever lead you back to where you want to be? Stylishly presented and structured to resemble the classic original this witty new humour title explores the many hilarious truisms of the road today. Such as the true meaning of traffic signs dealing with motorway middle-lane hoggers the correct service station etiquette as well as offering advice on how to park while others watch you driving abroad and the correct hand signal to give a cyclist. NOT THE HIGHWAY CODE is the perfect gift for anyone who has sat in the driver's seat (front or back) and although in many respects similar to the original it will not help anyone pass their driving test.

golden age of motoring from more than half a century ago. The booklets are a fascinating illustration of changing times from the instructions for signalling with your whip before the introduction of indicators to the appearance of traffic lights in the fifties. The first booklet published in 1931 was a mere twenty-four pages including advertisements for BP the AA and motoring publication The Autocar. It is drawn upon and illustrated in the introduction and the booklets from 1935 1946 and 1954 are reproduced in full with commentaries to establish them in their social and historical context. In the 1935 booklet the advertisements are jettisoned and in their place the new road signs and rules of the road are fully explained. In 1946 the booklet is smaller due to post-war austerity measures and the final booklet from 1954 introduces colour in order to explain the new traffic light system. A fantastic gift for everyone interested in motoring The Original Highway Code is a charming glimpse back to a bygone age.

Advantages: Helps with good driving Disadvantages: Not many seem to take notice
I recently signed up on a college course to train to become an Advanced Driving Instructor at which point I was handed several books to take away for plenty of home study. One of these books I remembered from when I was learning to drive which was 'The HighwayCode'
This official government publication covers the rules for all road users which includes pedestrians, horse riders, cyclists, motorcyclists and drivers of all kinds of vehicles, which makes 'The HighwayCode' essential reading for everybody and not just those who are about to start learning to drive.
I received my copy of 'The HighwayCode' as part of the fees which I am paying for the course but if you are looking to buy a copy the cover price is only £1.99. The book is available from the Driving Standards Agency website which I will give a note of below or from most ...

***NEVER TO OLD TO LEARN***

Everyone comes to an age when they say to themselves "I need to learn to drive". There may be the influence of job prospects or it might just be a case of wanting to be able to get to all of those places you could never get to by local transport . I'm getting to that age when I say to myself why don't you already know how to drive ? but the truth is I'm a tight arse and I hate spending money but not just that. I was always worried about how long it would take me to pass, as I've known people to still take lessons for well over a year before they become confident with driving.
