I originally bought Great Battles of Rome for the PSP from Game Station second hand for £10 that is a real time based strategy game which at the the time I didn't think was a bad purchase however since I've had a chance to play it a few times I don't think its that good.
Game Play **************** There are a number of campaigns available. As you go through the game completing each campaign you gain gold which allows you to buy new units as well upgrading them to what you want. The parts of your army that you are able to upgrade is nearly every aspect of an army that you could consider from upgrading some of your NCO's, weapons, aswell as wide range of upgrades.
When you take your army to battle on a campaign you are able to rotate and move the screen that your looking through around the map to view different parts of your army and units. As the battles begin you can alter the orders that you have given to adjust how you want your army to fight. However fom this aspect I didn't like how you can issue orders to your army because it didn't feel right by near enough having to use a playstation controller.
Problems **************** I've found this type of strategy game would work much better on the PC compared to the PSP. I've seen these types of games on the PC before and have found they work excellently however with the PSP a number of problems arise from it being on this type of console.
- Graphics When the game loads up and you begin a Skirmish or a Campaign you are left with an army under your control that look smaller than an armada of ants with the minimum of detail. The game really doesn't take advantage of the type graphics that the PSP is capable of which is why think this game would be far better on the PC.
- Game Play The game play just couldn't hold my interest long enough offering hardly anything interesting however the game did bring a couple of interesting ideas to the player like being able to rotate the screen all around 360 degrees of the battlefield.
These are the main problems that I have highlighted in the game. If you were thinking of buying this game, it's not worth it from some of the bigger points that I've highlighted.
Conclusion ***************** I really wouldn't recommend this PSP game to anyone. If you had thought about buying it brand new for £29.99 then I would say that you had been ripped off but even at £15 (which paid) is alot for the lack of game that your getting.
