I was beginning to think Robert Rankin's books were going off a bit. Oh dear, oh dear. Was he about to become another writer who churns things out to order? Had he lost his touch or his enthusiasm? Had the great well of humour and sheer absurdity finally dried up? It was relief when I picked up a copy of "The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse" and realised that all was well again.
If you've never read a Robert Rankin book prepare to be engaged by a fine writer of fantasy fiction. You will quickly become addicted to his unusual style and the sheer brilliance of his inventiveness. The running gags are all there and they're just as funny as ever.
In The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse Jack is a young boy who sets off to seek his fortune. He is surprised to find himself in Toy City and even more surprised to find that most of the residents of the city are toys that have somehow come to life. He quickly meets up with Eddie bear and soon he learns that a serial killer is on the loose. One by one the various characters from nursery rhymes are being picked off and murdered in gruesome but fitting situations. Jack and sidekick Eddie set out to solve the murders.
This is a tale that will keep you turning the page. You just have to know what happens.
Robert Rankin is often likened to Terry Pratchett. His books usually sit alongside those of Terry Pratchett on the bookshop shelf. Apart from that I can't see any likeness between the two. I find they each have their own individual style. I actually prefer the Rankin style for its sheer wicked humour. We all have our own tastes. I do think that you ought to give this book a whirl. It's well worth it.

Sorry for the low rate...but until you mentioned Pratchett there was nothing in your review that suggested humour...and nothing other than the comparitor to explain it. I'm afraid I'd need a little more information. As it stands, I'd have expected a "Chucky" kind of horror thing...not my thing at all...but I'm a big Pratchett fan, so if it's in that camp I'd definitely be interested. I hope you can see my confusion. If you choose to revisit this review & update, and maybe give some examples of the humour (for instance) then I'd be happy to come back & take another look (drop a note in my GB). Lx

Good review. I must admit that I'd also lumped Rankin & Pratchett together, they do seem to write about similar areas of fantasy.
