MeyerHachette DigitalMay 3, 2013Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. Wanderer, the invading soul who has been given Melanies body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didnt expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderers thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her bodys desires, Wanderer yearns for a man shes never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.About the AuthorStephenie Meyer graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in English Literature and lives with her husband and three young sons in Arizona. Advantages: Fantastic storyline, delving into an unknown world. Disadvantages: The first few chapters are a little hard going.
After reading and re-reading the series of vampire books by Stephenie Meyer, I was on the hopeful side when seeing the advert inside the front cover of one of afore mentioned books for her newest book.
After going away for the weekend with my husband and having the option or should I say privilege of wandering round shops without the kids, I ended up in the extortionately priced Waterstones….having the time to browse!

The book I will now review is - “The host by Stephenie Meyer”
After reading the blurb on the back of the book it comes across as an upto date version of invasion of the body snatchers.
The basic premise is - The world has been invaded by a species of creatures that have almost entirely took over the bodies of all humans, with there being the exception of a few renegade “soldiers” who refuse to go down without a fight, one of these people being Melanie Stryder. After surviving for years out of sight of the invaders she is finally captured by the military members of the invaders, ie the seekers.
As part of protocol in that situation, the “host” body is implanted with one of the invaders, these being souls. Once implanted, the souls completely take over the body and mind of the person they are implanted into, with only the memories of the person accessible to the soul but without having another mind being present….that is until Wanderer is implanted into Melanie’s body.
After finally admitting to herself that Melanie is still present within her new mind, Wanderer finally becomes a little overcome by Melanie’s strong mind and finds herself putting herself in grave danger by tracking down Melanie’s family, all in hiding. Will her family kill Wanderer on site as they would do with any other obviously invaded body, or will they give them both the chance to prove that two minds are so much better than one!……
I won’t lie to you, this is no where near on par with the Twilight books, but it is still a really good read….after a while.
The first few chapters are a little hard going, this book starts off with the world in the future and with so many other worlds and planets being available to visit by the invading souls, that until the main characters actually distance themselves from the world around them it does feel a little too confusing to follow.
Once the story is solely centred with Wanderer/Melanie and their journey to find her family, you feel finally drawn into the book with the story really developing from this point.
Another thing I loved about the book, is the fact that up until at least halfway through the book, the entire story is told from the Wandering souls stand point, with a few comments thrown in from Melanie. The differences that are portrayed between the souls and the humans is breathtaking. The reason given for the initial invasion is the fact that humans have become so self obsessed and barbaric, the planet was invaded before they destroyed the planet and each other, the fact that the souls are an incredibly peaceful race means that upon facing humans on their own turf so to speak, this completely terrifies the souls and highlights their differences and faults that have to be overcome.
The book as mentioned earlier was purchased from Waterstones for the price of £11.99, but is also available from Asda for the much cheaper price of £4.00, yes I was quite annoyed as well!

This is a good read once over the initial bumps, worth a read x
Advantages: Very thought provoking, good read Disadvantages: NA
For fans of the Twilight series of Stephanie Meyer, please be warned that this is a completely different kind of story. Catered for the adult market, it is a sci-fi written in a very different style to the other books of Stephanie but it’s still very much amazing. It accounts a world which has been invaded by an alien race, the souls. They take over the minds of the humans while leaving their bodies intact and retaining their memories. The story ... ...soul, she’s been given the strong body of Melanie, one of remaining human rebels, who refuses to fade away. She has a hard time adjusting to the new life on earth as Melanie refuses to cooperate and very often, Wanderer is torn between the two minds. On one hand, she tries to get as much as possbile out of her human experience. However, the memories of Melanie torments her and she is then drawn to begin the search for Jamie, younger brother of Mel, ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "The Host - Stephenie Meyer"
Advantages: I loved every page of the story. Disadvantages: Personally, I could not find any bad points tohe story.
The Host is quite a complex book, as it talks about the human populations in crisis, human beings being taken over by silver, worm-like creatures from a planted years away from ours.
Humans go into hiding from the creatures and think that they are all the same, he want to take every human being as the host. But infact they can change and learn to live with humans and eventually love them.
This book by StephenieMeyer, author of the Twilight Saga, is my favourite author, the way she tells the story makes the reader completely hooked on her every sentence.
In my opinion, there are a few times where I thought I can't carry on reading this as there are a few scary parts but I loved every page and chapter of this book.
I will definatey read this book again. ...
Advantages: Breathtaking page turner, great characters, great writing Disadvantages: The name Wanda is my only gripe!
If you've read my previous reviews on StephenieMeyer's books you'll know that I'm a huge fan of her writing. And so when her new novel for adults, The Host, was released earlier this month I knew that I had to get it.
Being in France meant that I wasn't able to read it until a couple of weeks after publication, but what better way to spend the nine hour ferry journey home than with what promised to be a great book?

Advantages: Good characters Disadvantages: Poor begining, struggle to read on
After reading StephenieMeyers Twilight Saga, I just couldn't wait to read "The Host". I got up and bought it the next day after reading "Breaking Dawn". But to be quite frank, i wish i didnt. I just really couldnt get into it, it simply took too long and i wasn't interested in it at all, what a bore. I probably could have gotten into but the half way pint of the book but ive always said, "if you can't read it from the start, don't read it at all." The character in the story who took over the human beings body was a very mysterious character, and i was very intruiged. But as i kept reading, i got nothing about her. I may giver this book another go, purely because of the character but other than that a poor begining. I really needed a bit more "umth" to get me hooked and reading on. ...
