Where's our mammoth?

Advantages: Possibly Wells' best work, tense, thought provoking and dramatic.
Disadvantages: Very short, flawed in the same way as Wells' other works.

of the Worlds chappie. Okay l suppose you can say its an ordinary man in an extraordinary situation. Quite an interesting conceit, but every book you write? Dont read all the H.G Wells novels in a row. You'll just get annoyed. Anyway on this boat he meets a fellow passenger called Montgomery. Montgomery is a scientist as well and assisstant to Dr. Moreau. He's probably the most interesting character we meet in the novel. But thats probably because he's the only interesting character we meet in the novel. Montgomery is accompanied by some most peculiar assisstants. One has a protruding face, shaggy black hair and is rediculously loyal towards his master. You mean like a dog? Yes like some sort of man/dog hybrid in fact. H.G.Wells goes to the MOON.

Advantages: A PAGE TURNER !
Disadvantages: NOTHING

accompany him on his journey and soon they are off. How they get there is really quite clever, if a little naïve. The Writing is so good you can not put it down. The pace is flowing and this is one of those rare page turners that you must read. They globe that they go too the moon in would of course kill them both in reality but lets ignore that fact, the Moon when they get there is fanciful and totally unbelievable, it even has at atmosphere, great! They meet aliens called Selenites and soon they are fleeing for their lives. They description of the aliens, their society and Moon creatures is superbly done. This is a must read, it is fun and riveting. Buy it, borrow it but read it. Written by H G Wells. ...

H.G. Wells' Martians In England!

Advantages: fantastic story!
Disadvantages: nothing to speak of

No one would have believed, in the last years of the nineteenth century, that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own… So begins H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds. I first read this 1898 sci-fi novel before Steven Spielberg's recent remake of the 1953 cinematic version of War of the Worlds, then after reading many reviews of the remake I reread the novel rather than watching the 2005 movie. The novel is (novelly for its time) set slightly in Wells' future, the early twentieth century, and was first serialized in Pearson's Magazine. The male narrator, rather like a reporter of that era, describes the catastrophic invasion of England by Martians in chilling detail from memory, not only of what he witnessed, but also what his brother in London related to him ...
