King of Queens is an American sitcom set in New York. The King in question is Doug Heffernan and the Queens they relate to is actually the suburb of New York he lives in with his wife Carrie. I think this title is a really clever play on words and sets the scene for quite a funny sitcom in my opinion.
Doug and Carrie are the main couple in this sitcom and it’s really them that the whole show revolves around. They have a nice relationship but bicker like most couples and they really play on each others stereotypes to get the laughs out of the audience. For example Doug is rather fat and so they definitely play this up on the show. He is generally always eating my Carrie facilitates this by buying him or making him his favourite foods. Doug is played by the very funny Kevin James who has been in movies such as Hitch, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and Paul Blart: Mall Cop. He started his career in standup and it was actually his appearances on Everybody Loves Raymond (another American sitcom) that prompted the creation of his own show, King of Queens. I think it’s his ability to not take himself too seriously that makes this show funny and the fact that he knows he’s rather large but uses that to get laughs.
Carrie is played by Leah Remini. She has quite a strong New York accent which can be annoying at times but I do find that she compliments Doug well. She is a secretary at a law firm and is often shown in various funny work situations. Doug’s job is the funniest. He works as a delivery driver for IPS (not UPS but has the same brown uniforms as they do. The fact that he has to wear shorts in his job is quite funny and I’m sure this was thought about when the show was created to be another funny aspect of his character.
By far the funniest character on this show though is Carrie’s dad, Arthur Spooner who lives with the couple downstairs in their basement. He is an old, cantankerous old man who doesn’t really seem to do anything but annoy both Doug and Carrie at the same time as them really loving him too. He always seems to come up with ridiculous thoughts, for example he will think he invented a certain well know product years before it actually came out and then try to sue that company for all the revenue they have made from his supposed product and silly things like that.
Doug and Carrie often hang out with their friend Deacon and Kelly. Doug works with Deacon at IPS. They are a black couple and although it’s not a big focus, race views do come up from time to time but they deal with it in quite a comical way and it’s nice to see these two couples really having a great relationship.
The show ran from 1998 to 2007. It won the People’s Choice Award for best television comedy in 2007 and 2008. It is show here on English television on Comedy Central.

...despite having seen several of the episodes before. Before I get into what its about, I'd like to point out that its set in Queens, NYC - it took me a while to work out why it was called 'King of Queens', so I thought I'd give you a headstart!
The base of the story is your average married couple, Carrie and Doug Heffernan, living in their own house with Carrie's father, Arthur Spooner, living in their basement. Doug, not the slimmest of men, works ... ...after him. Doug escapes from the difficulties of the world with his buddies on the sofa in his garage - with a big TV and a fridge full of beer.
Over 150 episodes, beginning in 1988, have been made, and the series is directed by Rob Schiller, who has also directed a few episodes of Two and a Half Men, Ned and Stacey, My Wife and Kids, The Wayans Bros, and many others - a pretty well-established comedy TV series director.
As to the main cast, Leah ...

The King of Queens revolves around Doug Heffernan (Kevin James), a New York parcel delivery guy whose lives in Queens with his wife Carrie (Leah Remini). Doug sanctuary is his garage which houses his pride and joy, a 70" tv, a present from his wife. However, Dougs little love nest is invaded by Carries father in law Arthur ( Jerry Stiller) when he refuses to live in a nursing home. Dougs TV room becomes Arthurs bedroom and the couples privacy is ... ...are hard to find. The couple use their jobs, Carrie is a legal secretary in Manhatten, to find solitude and time away. However this doesn't provide them with the time together they crave, but does give them the breathing room they need. Dougs main passtime is watching sport with his buddies: Deacon, dougs best friend and Spence, the weird one. While Carrie finds solice in her female friendships and work.

Well, it?s that time of year again when celebrities from all over exclaim ?I?m a celebrity get me?.in here as I need the money!? with Ant & Dec, no doubt booked into a posh oz hotel for the next fortnight, an unlikely mix of ex-footballers, big-breasted ladies and royal reporters vie for first place to become the king or queen of the jungle. Needless to say, this is TV at it?s most compelling whilst operating at the lowest possible common denominator.
Battle of the sex kittens falls to Kerry Mcfadden and Jordan, both renowned for their substantial assets. KMf is a former member of Atomic Kitten whilst Jordan is the serial slapper (of faces?he he) best known for her monthly subscription to the breast enlargement clinic. Advantages: It's back with a new line up for November 2005 Disadvantages: Can they make it any different?
The 5th series of I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here! kicks off on ITV1 on 20th November.
For anyone who hasn't watched the show before, I'll give a brief outline before giving you all the names of the new celebrities!
10 Celebrities are 'thrown' into the Australian Jungle to compete for the title of King or Queen of the Jungle. The celebrities are given just basic rations of rice and seeds, and expected to survive for up to 2 weeks of outdoor living!
They can, however, add to their basic rations by completing 'bushtucker trials'. In the past these have varied from being burried alive with rats crawling all over you, eating some very gruesome food like eyeballs, maggots etc, and even being suspended from a helicopter trying to climb a rope ladder! Seeing some of the successes and failures can be quite good viewing ...

Ferrero Rocher - foodstuff of Kings and Queens? I don't think so!
The original, and much parodied advertisement centred on "Zee Ambassador" serving the chocolates to his guests, whereby "spoling" the attendees at his soiree. The music was that of the "background" variety, now playing in a supermarket near you. Now, we have a middle-class couple (probably
DINKY's - double income, no kids) serving them to guests at their dinner party.
Now the reality. Most often purchased in WH Smiths or Woolies, these middle-of-the-road chocs are generally chosen as a last resort present for an Aunt or neighbour. They fall into the "newsagents" price remit for chocolates, such as Mars' Celebrations and Cadbury's Minature Heroes at around £4 a box.
The packaging is a plastic box, which doesn't exude luxury to me. Each of the sweets is ...
