...Anyway, in order to escape the daily grind, I enjoy reading. Generally, I’m not too fussy; trashy novels, science fiction, humour, crime and even, on occasion, poetry. Edwin Muir is one of my favourite poets. Born in Orkney in 1887, he moved to Glasgow in his early teens. His first book was published in 1918 and shortly after this he moved to London in to pursue a career in literary journalism.

You will also find this in Palgrave’s Golden Treasury, which is where I first came across it at the age of thirteen or so. Since then it has been a perennial favourite of mine and I return to it regularly. When I am worn down by the rigours of life, this gives me a boost. I enjoy this immensely and I hope you will also.
