Advantages: main reasons for the fall Disadvantages: quite old
coins decreased, the coins became less valuable. To make up for this loss in value, merchants raised the prices on the goods they sold. Many people stopped using coins and began to barter to get what they needed. Eventually, salaries had to be paid in food and clothing, and taxes were collected in fruits and vegetables.

Military spending left few resources for other vital activities, such as providing public housing and maintaining quality roads and aqueducts. Frustrated Romans lost their desire to defend the Empire. The empire had to begin hiring soldiers recruited from the unemployed city mobs or worse from foreign counties. Such an army was not only unreliable, but very expensive. The emperors were ...
Advantages: Good game, can be frustrating at times Disadvantages: Map navigation not good
I've had a lot of fun with this game by Xplosiv. You start as the guiding spirit of a stone age tribe, you aim to build the greatest civilisation on earth. You decide where to put your houses, build garrisons, ports, temples and your army. Your people must also collect gold, stone and wood and find food in order to survive. Basically you have over 10,000 years of real time evolution to build your tribe into the greatest empire.
This PC game works on windows 98, me and xp. Age of Empires, The Rise of Rome also lets you play an active role in directing the ascension of the infamous RomanEmpire.

Manufacturer's product description
Ammianus Marcellinus was the last great Roman historian and his writings rank alongside those of Livy and Tacitus. The Later Roman Empire chronicles a period of twenty-five years during Marcellinus' own lifetime covering the reigns of Constantius Julian Jovian Valentinian I and Valens and providing eyewitness accounts of significant military events including the Battle of Strasbourg and the Goth's Revolt. Portraying a time of rapid and dramatic change Marcellinus describes an Empire exhausted by excessive taxation corruption the financial ruin of the middle classes and the progressive decline in the morale of the army. In this magisterial depiction of the closing decades of the Roman Empire we can see the seeds of events that were to lead to the fall of the city just twenty years after Marcellinus' death.
