Review of "The Lord Of The Rings: BBC Radio 4 Dramatisation (Audio Book) - J.R.R. Tolkien"
The title is normally something i would say about a film especially as this "The Lord Of The Rings" and "The Hobbit" (which I would love to write a review on except that the site doesn't include it) are the only 2 stories I have on tape. However I have to say that this isn't as good as the book it just doesn't have the detail. But that’s all I can say negatively about it, I'm very confident it is better then the up and coming film will be, it's not over dramatised, they don't change the story that J R R Tolkien wrote, they don't try and shorten it to make it easier for them selves, and they really get all the characters spot on as far as I'm concerned.
It's split up into 13 parts each of which is on a separate tape, and each tape lasts for an Hour. This obviously means 13 hours of story which is extremely difficult for anyone to listen to all at once. However if you were to get this then i can assure you you would do it at some point. Once you put it on it really is very difficult to not keep listening. I sometimes take it on long car journeys and it really is very beneficial. It can be listened to again and again, and you'll still feel sick with nerve's at times, cry at others, and feel real joy at the good times. It really makes you feel like your living it with them and you get to love, and hate, some of the characters. You feel the wind blowing past them as the gallop on horses, you feel the pain as they tramp for miles.
It's a story that will stay with you for live if you read it, but it can be listened to over and over again if you have the tapes, and it's the sort of thing that you'll listen to for the rest of you like if you own it.
All the family will love these tapes, if you have to put young children to sleep then put this tape on for them, and I can guarantee that you'll lie or sit with them till the tape is finished, irrespective of whether they fell asleep early in it or not.
I believe that there are a limited number of these made and i also believe they are very expensive but there worth every penny and my advice is if you see them for sale buy them.I'm Sorry to have presumed to that everyone knws the story but it's long and if people don't know it all i can really say it it's a fantasy adventure, and one of the best books ever writen, not my opinion but also that of many of the experts.
