The Lord Of The Rings: BBC Radio 4 Dramatisation (Audio Book) - J.R.R. Tolkien

I remember listening to this as a kid and having bought it I have enjoyed every minute. I gave it to my son who also loves it.
The BBC really does produce great quality products. As a kid you are always unforgiving, especially of the adaptation of a beloved book, thankfully this does not fall short.
After the movies the interest in the book has risen, there is nothing that replaces the book experience but for anyone who can't cope with reading this format allows you to use your imagination, Frodo looks differant to ever reader, as do the Orcs or the wizards or even Sauron. The films were very good but they still leave you disappointed by one or two caharcters, Tolkein never really gave detailed descriptions of characters physical appearance and this I believe is one of the secrets of the success of the Books.
