"The Magic Cottage"

I bought this book a few years ago i had heard of the author James Herbert as my mum has a few books of his and i saw this book The Magic Cottage. It looked like a book i would read and i thought i would buy it and give it a read.

The Magic Cottage is about Midge who draws illustrations, and Mike who is a musician they both live in an apartment in the city and are wanting to move to the country. Midge finds a lovely cottage in the paper that is in the country and when they go and see Midge falls in love with it. There is a lot of work needed doing to the cottage and when the builders come in to do the work it isn't as bad as they thought bad. Midge and Mike are told about the woman who lioved there before them and they find out that they are the perfect people that was described to live in the cottage Graymere and they get visits from the bird that comes to there kitchen window every morning and then other animals start turniong up.When Midge and Mike move into the cottage strange things happen Midge illustrations come to life and when Mike plays it sounds so beautiful. There is a group of synigists that are after the cottage these synigists are people who believe in peace and that sort of thing.

The characters in the book are great Midge and Mike have been written into the book superbly Midge and Mike are characters that you like and you enjoy reading about them. James Herbert is a great writer and has written some excellent books such as the fog, others, the ghosts of sleath and the haunted and a few others.

My opinion of the magic cottage is that it is a book that i would recommend people to read. It is an excellent book it is one of those books where you can pick it up and never be able to put it down and when i have read this book i'm that engrossed in it that i think i'm in the place that the book is talking about.
The characters in the book are believeable and the way the book is written is excellent i would definately read the book again and again. From seeing the book in the bookshop i thought it would be a book that i might not enjoy but as soon as i started reading it was a great book.

Manufacturer's product description

Three new James Herbert backlist titles Creed, the Magic Cottage and Shrine join the other audio titles already available. 'We thought we'd found our haven, a cottage deep in the heart of the forest. Quaint, charming, maybe a little run-down, but so peaceful. The woodland animals and birds couldn't have been more neighbourly. That was the first part of the Magic. Midge's painting and my music soared to new heights of creativity. That was another part of the Magic. Our sensing, our feelings, our love for each other - well, that became the supreme Magic. But the cottage had an alternative side. The Bad Magic. What happened to us there was horrendous beyond belief. The miracles, the healings, the crazy sect who wanted our home for themselves, the hideous creatures that crawled from the nether regions, and the bats - Oh God, the bats! Even now those terrible things seem impossible to me. Yet they happened...'
