The book "The Magic of Thinking Big" was given to me as a gift by one of my colleagues. At first I thought, at this age, what achievements I can accomplish by reading this book, as I have already reached the evening of my life. But I was proved wrong, as I started to read the book, I got deeply engrossed in it. It put me in a mode of self analysis and I started to evaluate my life in terms of what I read in those pages. I got convinced that I was one among those people who had not utilized the opportunities in life to come up, due to all those delicacies and complexities of life, which ... more

Advantages Advantages A personal development classic

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dated and anachronistic - but actually timeless

David Schwartz opens this self-help classic with the charming story of his young son who blurts out that when he grows up, he wants to be a Professor of Happiness. This optimism sets the tone for a very warm and uplifting book. It's worth mentioning up front that the book is very dated, even anachronistic. To me, that is part of its charm, evoking a picture-perfect post-war Americana of chrome, consumerism and optimistic salesmen (think of AMC's "Mad Men"). There are tales of World War II veterans, men in $100 silk suits and grand industrial corporations. Don't let the period setting fool you ... more
