There is a book telling maybe an incredible for many, nevertheless true story. It is the story of Nikola Tesla. The book is “ The Man Who Invented the 20th Century”, by Robert Lomas (Great Britain engineer and teacher). Nikola Tesla was born in Serbia, at Smjlian, in a region named Krajna, near Belgrade, in the XIX century. He was a Genius, one of the greatest inventors and scientists in the 19th – 20th century. Here I am commenting, in good part, this optimum book, but I feel I must add something mine, too, since I have studied about Tesla, in the way you will be able to glimpse in the following…
At the end of the ‘800, when he had already found out many interesting discoveries in the electromagnetism field, he went to America and began to work with the “great” Thomas Edison. During this first part of 1900, his fame grew incommensurably. Tesla was definitely a more complete inventor from a theoretical and mathematical, possibly from an experimental point of view, too, respect to Edison. This could become a great problem and so did.
However, Edison had some different arrows to play: more power, more acquaintances and a totally different commercial skill, in any sense one wants to interpret it. Their association could not last. In
the view, also, that, it is sure, Edison got the paternity for some invention that was “not completely” his, if we want to remain good fellows.
Anyway, once the society was broken, Tesla knew his best period. He patented really a BIG quantity of USEFUL and genial inventions. More than 2500 US patents. Some of them disappeared during and after the thirties (stolen?). Some of these last ones reappeared in Belgrade, in the last 2 decades. Belgrade museum, apparently, bought them from the US government.
I do not know if in Great Britain you knew from high school or university studies, but I did not have any information, here in Italy, on Tesla and the post he merited in the science history… Tesla ideated the alternating currents electrical systems and the hydroelectric power plants exist for his own merit, as the conduction of the electrical current to houses and firms. The previous direct electrical systems, “attributed to Edison”, were totally supplanted. In addition, Tesla, enlightening New York through the first plant at the Niagara Falls, won, from this point of view, his personal fight with Edison.
Another problem was born in those times: a contentious with the Italian Alessandro Marconi. The last one was accused from Tesla to have used his older (ten years precedent) lessons for patenting the radio. I am Italian, but I must tell many evidences were and are in favour of Tesla: two courts verdicts too, in London and New York. And I believe him! He had no reason to be insincere and charge Marconi: This was a great scientist too, and made a good job. I could be ungenerous. Nevertheless, I think one should look at the evidences, and consider this kind of stories too, to define somebody GREAT, or not. I think one can understand, from here, the ethical fall of the person. Without exaggerate and generalise at the whole environment, obviously… Even if there are too many similar stories - one has to defend his fame, or privileges, or power, right? - in the science sphere (many more there are in other society areas, yet)...
From some newspapers of the ‘30s, then, we know of an incredible experiment for the Arrows automotive. One of the patents now dispersed… Tesla put his invention, a sort of metallic box, on the driver’s side seat, and opened a kind of metallic wings. The apparatus was connected to the engine in a simple way. Tesla drove the Arrows car for about 2 weeks without necessity of any fuel…
He, further, invented a medical apparatus which transmitted electromagnetic (?) waves and collaborated with some medics, contributing to cure many sick.
How one can see, even if the following could appear incredible, this and other Tesla’s inventions fought strongly with some economical and of other kind powers.
Facts are undeniable, and shows clearly that, after all these inventions, the until then famous and clapped Tesla, the scientist that appeared on any newspapers, in books, on the radio, the man who kings and governments leaders wanted to give a hand-shake, was readily subjected at low attacks of any kind. He was described from the newspaper and the radio stations as a sort of a witch, a madman. The banks and the men behind them, that were quietly sponsoring his works, gaining mountains of money back, withdrew totally back. Why? Who?
He and his works were occulted. Some of his patents vanished. His name disappeared from the physics books until the ‘80s (at the university I studied physics on many books, no trace! I hope some of you can tell me a different story!?)… A cover – up technique! Why? Who?
Only in the ‘80s somebody had success in rediscover something about him and his name, at last was used for the magnetic field unit: Tesla…
This is surely not sufficient to give him back a minimum of justice… This little man, but GREAT scientist and creator: the man who invented the 20th Century, died in 1943, alone, forgot and poor.
It would be time the truth on many bad and hidden actions, crimes, came up. Not only the ones here told, regarding Tesla. But these actions are done, maybe, from untouchables, inexplicably ultra – protected. How to explain, otherwise, this and other similar stories? Who gained or gain the most from such actions? To join the truth can be seen as a utopia, a miracle, but it would be a GREAT step forward for the whole human being! Lightstars
