All In A Lather!

Advantages: Fun and easy to read book
Disadvantages: None

as well. The writing is always on plain white sections of the pages and is a nice good size and is always in black ink which makes it nice and clear to read. The illustrations are All nice and bright and colourful. They are great for helping to tell the story and they also help to keep my 4 year old interested in the book for a short time before he looses interest. Other books in this collection include:- Master Money the Millionaires Son Mr and Mrs Hay the Horse Mr Biff the Boxer Mrs Wobble the Waitress Mr Tick the Teacher. The retail price on the back of this book is £2.99 but these can be picked up a lot cheaper on EBay and Amazon with prices starting from just 1p. I only paid just over a pound for my copy which is a great price for such a good reading book. The book was written by Allan Ahlberg and illustrated by ...

Review of Mrs Lathers Laundry - Allan Ahlberg

It's funny, very funny!

Advantages: funny book
Disadvantages: A bit dark and scary

This book is a classic that is written by Janet and Allan Ahlberg and was first published in 1980. I find it interesting that Janet is placed first considering she was the illustrator. Either she was the boss of the relationship or she had a wonderful husband who was a real gentleman! The book tells the story of two skeletons and a dog skeleton that live in a cellar. One night they decide to take the dog for a walk and whilst they are out they plan on scaring someone. They get up to all sorts of fun and games while they are out and about including visiting the local zoo and taking rides on some of the animals. When it comes to the time to find some people to scare unfortunately there is no one around; what will they do and who will they end up scaring? The text in this book is probably quite famous and known by most families. It ...

Review of Funnybones - Allan Ahlberg

This is something good to hear in the playground

Advantages: A good introduction to poetry for children
Disadvantages: None

HEARD IT IN THE PLAYGROUND ALLAN AHLBERG I think that I can confidently say that everyone reading this review will know of some of Ahlberg's work, even if they don't know it. If I say 'Funnybones' and 'The Jolly Postman' I'm sure that your memories will be tweaked, and these are just two of Ahlberg's characters from the 130 children?s books he has written. His books have also been made into popular television programmes like ?Woof? and again ?Funnybones?. Allan Ahlberg was born in Croydon in 1938, but grew up in near Birmingham. From the age of twelve, his dream was to be a writer. Before he actually made it to be writer at a variety of other jobs including postman, gravedigger, plumber's mate and teacher. His work as a teacher is probably what gives him such insight into the minds of young children ...
