Advantages Good value over time

Disadvantages Expensive

I joined the mystery and thriller club about 6 months ago. The club offers a selection of horror and murder mystery books at reduced prices. The books are hardback versions of the publications and cost about half the retail price or the same as what you would pay for paperbacks. I have got 2 harback books that do not seem to be available as paperbacks (yet at least). The aims of the club are to bring to the reader the best on offer of horror and mystery thriller (murder) books available at discounted retail prices.
The reader benefits from getting hardback books at knockdown prices. Some of the books will be new releases and others not yet available in UK shops. The range is fairly good, mainly murder mysteries and horror with some other books thrown in of mixed variety, such as documentary style or off topic books by well known authors and also celebrity biographies. There is also a good selection of historical novels.
When you join special offers are available such as free books but the terms say you must buy 6 books before you leave. There are frequent magazines, monthly or bimonthly (I am not sure how many I have had). The magazine also has links to other book clubs such as warfare, history and childrens. The editor recommends books to you each month. There is a very annoying form with the magazine .You have to tick the No box and send back the form otherwise you will be sent the offers. The offers are actually quite good value about half the normal price.
If you access the website the form is not a problem as you can immediately refust to accept the special offers. The website is very good but the range seems a lot smaller when not in print compared to other clubs or what is available on Amazon. You can also handle your account online but it seems to be very slow. Customer service is not very responsive.
Over all the books are good value, you are charged for postage and packaging but 2 books will cost you what you will spend in a night out anyway or at a resteraunt. Books like these last forever, you can resell them on amazon, give them away to charities or just keep them for family and friends.
My own advice would be to join the club if you like collecting books, not just for the special offers. Books cost from 7.99 to 12.99 + post age and packing is 1.99 so be careful what you choose. There are great savings to be had but like anything else you have to know what you are buying.

some great points...but i had major problems with this company as they were charging me for books that i had never ordered or recieved, even though i had never joined the club. In the end i had to take them to court to stop the harrassment. I personnally would never use any book club again, (but my experience is probably a one off), regards, Blissman.
