Advantages: A gripping read if your into historical who dunit Disadvantages: You should really read the first two books
Set in England in 1366, this, the third book, is a story of betrayal, intrigue, incest, 14th century war fare, resurrection and holy relics. Knowing all this it's hardly surprising that the same rose was often used as a symbol by mediaeval apothecaries. CandaceRobb herself has an in-depth knowledge of herbs and has developed and planned her own herb garden along mediaeval principals. She has used her research and studies of old herbals, court transcripts, wills and inventories as well as referring to archaeoethnobiological studies to develop realistic and plausible lifestyles for Nicholas and Lucie Wilton, apothecaries in the white rose cathedral city of York. 'The Apothecary Rose', set in 1363, is the first of the Owen Archer mysteries.
