    Advantages Advantages flexible, study from home, high quality materials and tuition

    Disadvantages Disadvantages less contact with tutors, need to be computer literate

    Most people in the UK have heard of The Open University, often from the high-quality documentaries produced in partnership with the BBC. However, how many people in the UK seriously consider it as a choice when deciding on the ideal place to study? I think they should: read on to find out why.     Deciding what to do with regards to careers and qualifications isn't an easy matter, less so with the whole 'economic crisis' jazz going on and the fight for jobs. After college a lot of my friends went to Uni and I felt pressured in to doing likewise. I opted instead to work for a few years, save money and then realised I still wanted to study. Not wanting the debt from living away, I stayed with my parents to undertake a degree with the Open University; it hasn't all been a positive experience, but I'm still glad I chose this as an alternative option that suited me and my circumstances ... more

    For anyone like myself that did not take the standard University route, the Open University is there to give us a second chance, the first thing I would say if the freedom of choice that is available, whether you want to complete a degree, obtain a masters, or just take some courses for your own pleasure. An ideal place for anyone to start who for whatever reason has decided to start studying, but maybe you don't know which route of study you want to take, or even you may want to pick a wide range of subjects.
