I will be totally honest I bought this book because I read the blurb and I was intrigued because there wasn't much of a blurb. Two lines about how two women meet and their lives are changed forever. Is that it? you might say or if you're at all like me you'll have to buy it because you will have to know what it's all about. But here is the honest bit the main reason I bought this book is because it was under a fiver in Tesco.
Ok so I promise not to give anything away, I know people always say this but I honestly can't tell you much about the story because I don't want to spoil it for you.
I can tell you why I loved it though. I took the book on holiday with me recently not expecting much more for my fiver than a throwaway beach read. But the story was so well written that I could hardly put it down. It is told from the poin of views of the two central characters and almost immediately you can't help but feel an affinity with them. What I loved most about the book is how the author managed to potray a range of emotions from one page to next. There were times reading the book when I was almost crying and others when I was actually laughing out loud. Mostly when batman was involved (you'll see what I mean)
So If you're looking for a real page turner that will keep you guessing this book will most probably appeal to you, as well as this you've also got very real characters and an enthralling story.
I wasn't familiar with Chris Cleave's work but I am now planning to read his other books and if they're anywhere as near as good as this one they will be a pleasure to read.
