A Chilling Ghost Story

Advantages: Easy to read, simple story with lots of detail
Disadvantages: It wasn't long enough!

The Winter Ghosts starts in April 1933, with a man called Freddie. He is off the meet the owner of a bookshop in the hope that he can decipher a letter that he has on his person. The shopkeeper is amazed at the letter and promptly asks where he had come across such a thing. The story that Freddie tells of how it came into his possesion is the main body of the book. The story is quite a simple one. Freddie is off to visit some friends in France and is driving round the hills, when an unexpected blizzard happens and forces his car off the road and into a bolder. With no where else to go, Freddie makes his way into the village to find help but on doing so, hears voices in the hills and through the trees. He decides to stay the night as there is no one around to fix his car until the morning. On his short time in the village some very ...

Story-loving Ghosts

Advantages: Encourages story-telling; visually appealing
Disadvantages: Probably not easy for young readers

, and the three ghosts from the front cover introduce themselves to her as Magpie, Twit and Puddle Mud. The ghosts explain that they wanted Bo's book, but she came too because she was holding it so tightly. Bo angrily accuses them of stealing, but they claim that they always give books back to children after they have read them. They ask Bo to read her book to them, and when she agrees ghosts fly out from all over the library to listen. The ghosts enjoy Bo's book so much that they ask her for another story. She says it's their turn, but they protest that they don't know any stories. Bo says she will help them to make one up; they shout out their ideas, but they want Bo to tell the story because she is so good at doing different funny voices. After all the story-telling Bo eventually returns to her bedroom to find a little surprise on her pillow ...

Ghost Story (1974)

Advantages: oooooh scary biscuits
Disadvantages: special effects are none existant

Ghost Story is a strange horror film from 1974. It was directed by Steven Weeks and it is one of my favourite films of all time. This is a DVD review, however, there is no additional footage, there are no out-takes and it looks like it has been converted straight from film. The original was from 1974, so it is unlikely that additions would be available. It was hard enough tracking the film down in the first place ! WARNING>>>>> PLOT SPOILER !!!! The story is about three friends from university, going down to a mansion that had been giving to one of them upon his graduation. It is an old mansion, that he, (McFaden), knows is haunted. He does not make the other two guests aware of this however. McFaden is played by Murray Melvyn, and he is creepy enough, but he has a sort of gayness about him the whole way ...
