Advantages: Comprehensive Disadvantages: Missing the letterwriting guide that is very useful
A lot of online dictionaries are somewhat dicey, offering a substandard interface, or a lack of definitions. The OxfordDuden offers the full Oford Duden German Dictionary on one CD Rom, with 300,000 words and 470,000 definitions. The installation phase can take a little while, but the search works efficiently. A new feature is that of the User Dictionary, so you add thematic dictionaries (upto 10) to the main dictionary. This is the feature I have got the most mileage from, as I have been able to establisbh a financial and telecomms dictionary. Options that are useful are highlighting (i.e. if there is one part a definition you often need), a full text search and other search options. All this for not much more than the price of a large English-German Dictionary, although admittedly the section on German in usage, i.e. letters ...
Advantages: Must have in every home, practical lay out and design, easy to use. Disadvantages: Could have more information about formal writing, the information avaliable is somewhat limited.
The OxfordDictionary of English in my opinion (and I'm sure in many others) is THE best dictionary without a doubt. Its the most trusted and probably the most used. I recommend The oxforddictionary to anyone and everyone, and its a must have in every home. The additional features that are avaliable in the Dictionary is also very impressive and I would say a 'God send' especially when formally writing. The Dictionary is very well written, with great examples and explanations of the meaning of words, and even additional comments that help further with understanding of the sense of which the word should be used in. Its is extremely useful and is always being used in our house. I would encourage young children in particular to use the OxfordDictionary to assist them in their learning and especially spelling. ...

OALD is always revised periodically. Overall, I would say that OALD is a specially designed dictionary for foreign English learners and a dictionary that teaches English.
