the new circus in town, something sinister and rather magical... On a blustery October night the Circus Oscuro came to town. It was clear from the start that...
Advantages: A selection of funny capers from Peter Kay's early life Disadvantages: Badly edited and some bad one liners.
...Like many I am one of those who has developed a soft spot for Peter Kay. His stand up routines are some of the funniest I've seen by a contemporary comedian. His observational and relatively clean humour is refreshing change from the crowd of funny men who can't seem to tell a gag unless it includes at least three F words and a reference to human genitalia (Peter prefers to talk about his dog's lipstick). So the last thing I wanted to do was slag off his autobiography. Unfortunately there sure is a lot of tumbleweed blowing through the pages of 'The Sound of Laughter' and a few too many yawn inducing paragraphs that take the shine off what could have been a classic comedy autobiography.
You can't help but feel the PK has been let down by his publishers and editors. A lot of the writing, especially in the early chapters is poor...

...The Palace Diaries
Written by Sarah Goodall and Nicholas Monsoon
**** Introduction****
Written in 2006 and published in 2007, this 318 page hard back book had me gripped in almost every chapter. Hailed as "Racy, outrageous and hilarious - there's never been a Royal book like it. The Palace Diaries is a unique insider's view of what really went on during the most tumultuous period for the British monarchy, since the abdication of Edward VIII. On the cover is Miss Goodall, looking slinky and sassy in a Audrey Hepburn type pose, complete with Corgi. Her adoration and respect for Charles is paramount but I think this mostly comes from her loins, not from her heart.
To be honest, I had never heard of this Miss Goodall. This book came upon be by pure chance whilst browsing through a leading book website. It was on offer at 75...

Advantages: Great Read, Comedy Disadvantages: Lots of errors throughout book.
...Peter Kay - The Sound Of Laughter
This is the only book that Peter Kay has published and I reckon is pretty good for a first attempt. He is a well know stand-up comedian and has been seen in many TV programs in his life including Max and Paddy's road to nowhere, Phoenix nights and Corrie.
The book is an autobiography. Believe it or not Peter's life didn't actually revolve around being a comedian in his early years but had always wanted to be one. Anyway enough of the story. The book tells us a very lot about his life but only really from his younger years. He mentions some things in great detail and not so much for other things. When he goes into detail you would get a great feel and actually feel like you were there with him. The thing about the book is that he would start to tell you something and then move onto another subject...
