Advantages Advantages Good solid story that flows along nicely. Character Development is very well done

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not knowing what shes actually found out until well into the book

As I’ve mentioned in previous ops reading never used to be something I was really into. In fact it wasn’t until about a year after I left school that I really started to read regularly and it was a book by John Grisham that really got me started. This wasn’t the one but after reading one of his books I felt that I had to make an effort to try and read pretty much everything he had written. And so I came to the Pelican Brief, the 3rd Novel he wrote. The main aspect of Grisham’s work is that he is writing about a field he has a great deal of experience and knowledge in ... more

This is the third John Grisham book I've read in a month. I reckon its the best too. They're all so different as well, which is pretty amazing because I thought law was pretty much all the same. Oh well. This story starts with the rather professional assassination of two Supreme Court Justices. One was a 91 year old that everyone hated, so that one was obvious, but the other one didn't seem to be particularly radical or hated. So, the White House, the FBI and the CIA get in a bit of a flap. Then Darby Shaw, a brilliant law student in New Orleans skips classes for four days searching for a ... more

Advantages Advantages Strong plot, well narrated

    Disadvantages Disadvantages ---

John Grisham's “The Pelican Brief” is such a brisk page-turner you could use it to dry your hair. It is widely believed that he had Julia Roberts in mind for the heroine, Darby Shaw, a brilliant law student who comes up with an ingenious theory to explain the baffling assassinations of two Supreme Court justices. They are shot and strangled by ace international terrorist Khamel but the government feebies are initially left clueless and are unable to fathom as to what connects these two deaths. After surviving a car bomb that kills her boyfriend and law professor, Thomas Callahan, she ... more

At the opening of John Grisham's intriguing thriller, "The Pelican Brief," two Supreme Court Justices, one liberal and one highly erratic, are murdered in a single evening, one of them at home, the other at a pornographic movie theater for homosexuals. The President of the United States is delighted. The murderer, we know, is a super lone-wolf ex-terrorist named Khamel, who, as one character explains, is "the most proficient and expensive assassin in the world," "can kill with either hand, either foot, a car key, a pencil, whatever" and "speaks 12 languages." Switch scenes now to New Orleans ... more

    Advantages Advantages Well written

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

This is one of John Grisham’s better known novels. The plot is fairly far-fetched, but Grisham manages to make it not only believable, but also scarily realistic. This is one of the ultimate conspiracy theories involving the US Government at the highest of levels. A young lawyer manages to do what no one else has, make the connection between the deaths of two Supreme Court Justices. Now the question is whether she can stay alive long enough to tell someone. This is written to the usual high standard you would expect of John Grisham, but the action is racier than in some of his other novels ... more
