P D James has always been a favourite author of mine (although I admit that many years ago I thought P D James was male!).
About the author
Phyllis Dorothy James started writing in the mid 1950s and it wasn’t until 1962 that her book was published (Cover Her Face).
She was made Baroness James of Holland Park in 1991. She lives in London and Oxford and has two children.
The Private Patient
This latest offering has Adam Dalgliesh and his team investigating the murder of Rhoda Gradwyn.
Rhoda is an investigative journalist, who after years of living with a disfiguring and long-standing scar decides to book herself into a private clinic (Cheverell Manor) to have it removed.
What could possibly go wrong?!
As you would imagine in a P D James murder mystery all is not as it seems and the Cheverell Manor holds a deadly secret.
Two days after Rhoda’s arrival at the manor, as she is slowly waking from the anaesthetic, a white figure (is it a man, is it a woman?) slowly enters her room. The next we know, Rhoda is dead, the victim of a murder.
At first Adam sees this as an open and shut case, but it isn’t until he digs deeper that he discovers that infact few things make sense at all!
When a second murder takes place Adam finds himself confronted by issues more challenging than he could ever imagine.
My Opinion
A well written book with, as always in my opinion very strong characters. Adam Dalgliesh has always been a favourite of mine and I used love watching Roy Marsden portraying him on the TV (he match what my imagination created).
A great book to snuggled down with, as this is set in December so I would suggest pouring a hot cuppa and snuggling under the duvet, especially as winter is almost upon us and leaves are starting to fall from the trees.
Some people are saying this may be Dalglieish last case, I sincerely hope this is not true.
Very enjoyable read and highly recommended.
