Pleasing professor

Advantages: descriptions and not intimidating storylines
Disadvantages: maybe the french conversations for some people

Being a fan of the Bronte clan the first section I head to in my local library would be of that shelf. It was only a very short time ago that I discovered The Professor, not even realising Charlotte Bronte had written it. Indeed, ashamedly to admit, I had never even heard of it before then.

It was created before Jane Eyre came about from the year 1845-6 and is an intimate and gentle story about William Crimsworth, a man working for ...
...to an 'older woman' from the adjoining girls school, it is only when he is appointed the position of teaching the young ladies to become better at speaking, writing and reading english that he discovers her cruel manipulations towards other peoples feelings and current situations.

The girls he teaches and how he reactes to their behaviour is similar to that of Lucy Snow in Villette. As to where he mocks the written work of the prettiest ... more

The Master Novel that was not to be

Advantages: Not applicable
Disadvantages: Not applicable

...disappointing for you to receive the publisher’s rejection slip when you first submitted your manuscript for “The Master”. But the words of advice you received and followed surely helped you achieve success the following year with “Jane Eyre”. I wish you could have known just how many generations you would inspire with that book alone. I know you tried again and again to interest publishers in your earlier novel and that you agreed to call it “The ...
...part of the point you were making, if I’m not mistaken. Would you be pleased or not, I wonder, to know that the book was eventually published only a year or so after your death? Ironic that don’t you think? I know you had become dissatisfied with it yourself and planned to restructure it completely. It is easy to see why it didn’t meet the publishers’ criteria. It was too short. It didn’t contain enough excitement or glamour. You could see it too ...

Wuthering Heights Vs Jane Eyre: Round 1!

Advantages: Brillantly written, interesting story, thought-provoking.
Disadvantages: It's not Wuthering Heights!

a relationship because of her losses in her life. Her Mother, Father, Uncle and Helen. The only people who ever loved her were taken away from her. Does she think the same will happen to Rochester? I’ve always thought Jane wasn’t not interested, but more scared, than anything else. Charlotte Bronte, whilst in Brussels studying French in the early 1840’s fell in love with her Professor. Although The Professor – one of Charlotte’s other novels – is mostly based on that experience, Jane Eyre also touches on the subject. Charlotte and Jane – again have a similarity – in the way they fall in love but are scared to commit. There are obstacles blocking their way to find love. What wasn’t in the book, though, that actually did happen to Charlotte was the rejection of her love. The fact that her love ...
