Book bag time at school again for Jacob which really did please him as he loves looking a books and reading them with me and Daddy. This book was a nice addition as it introduced him to poetry which is something he has not really heard before.

From the title of these poems I did not recognise many at all but once I started to read them then they did start to become familiar to me. The poems are all on coloured pages and for the majority of the pages they contain two poems. The pages all have nice illustrations which accompany the poems but usually only one poems has the illustrations and the other on the page has nothing.

Despite the pages being coloured the writing is still very easy to see as it is in black ink and a good size. Jacob does enjoy listening to me reading some of the poems but he much prefers to tell me about the pictures in the book. He will sit for a short time a listen to maybe two or three of the poems but no way at all will he sit and listen to the whole book of them in one go. I do like the fact that they can be read in no particular order so the book can just be picked up and put down when wanted.

My 7 year old is easily able to read this book by himself and at times he really does enjoy it. He does find that some of the poems are a bit young for him now but he will still read them to Jacob if I ask him to.

I would say that this book is best suited to children between 4 and 6 years old as they will get the most enjoyment from the poems. It is also a good book for introducing the rhyming pattern to children.

The book which we have is the paperback version and it was a gift in Jacob’s Book bag from school so we did not have to pay for this. I have looked on Amazon and this title is not currently available but there is a very similar book for just under £5. It was published by Puffin books and edited by June Crebbin.

Overall I do recommend this book as it is a fun read, can be picked up and put down at different times very easily and it is a good way of introducing children to the rhyming pattern.
