What's the movie about?
BravoTwoZero was produced by the BBC and shown on British TV in 1998. It is a true story set in the early days of the Gulf War (Iraq 1991) and retells the story of an 8 man SAS squad behind enemy lines; their mission was to destroy Iraqi scud missiles launchers and also to cut communication lines. Very quickly their position becomes compromised and they are set back further by equipment failure and bad weather. Deciding to abort their mission they have to fight numerous running battles with a much larger Iraqi army before they can reach the border to safety. Eventually some of the squad are captured and have to endure interrogation and torture from Iraq's secret police. BravoTwoZero is an excellent story of an elite squadron trying to escape from behind enemy lines with things getting worse as each minute ...
's family and other families of the regiment didn't even know their sons was in the SAS.
For those of the regiment who died, they were buried in a grave in Hereford. If I ever go to Hereford, I will visit these graves and see some real Heroes of war.
Channel Four
----------------
Last week, channel four had a documentary about bravoTwoZero. The man presenting the programme, was an ex-SAS man himself. He followed the tracks of BravoTwoZero and spoke to people who saw the regiment, even spoke to the shepherd boy, who was now a man in his mid twenties. The Iraqi's remembered BravoTwoZero and was saying events in the book were false, and was giving what they could recall. Lastly, he said, any admiration he had for Andy, had gone after hearing what the Iraqi's had to say.
My views on this are, I believe BravoTwoZero, more than I ...
Advantages: Explores a very popular story Disadvantages: Too much love for the Bedouin
.
Several years later, the author of this book, MichaelAsher, was approached by a TV company wanting to make a documentary about what had really happened. Asher seemed the ideal choice having spent several years in the territorial SAS and lived for a couple of years with the Bedouin of Northern Africa. The reasons for this documentary were twofold, 1) there were many discrepancies between the two accounts of the mission and 2) the family of one of the soldiers killed, Vince Phillips, wanted to know that it was not the fault of their son that the mission had been compromised and that he had died a brave man.
Asher agreed and soon he and his crew were headed for Iraq where, after several delays they were able to trace the route of the patrol up until capture.
If you have read either of the two books on this topic then this is a great read ...

Manufacturer's product description
Bravo Two Zero' was the code-name of the famous SAS operation: a classic story of bravery in the face of overwhelming odds. Bravo Two Zero" by patrol commander 'Andy McNab' became an international bestseller as did the book by 'Chris Ryan' ("The One That Got Away"). Both men became millionaires. Three members of the patrol were killed. One veteran sergeant Vince Phillips was blamed in both books for a succession of mistakes. As Michael Asher reveals the stories in "Bravo Two Zero" and "The One That Got Away" grew considerably in the telling. Their heroic tales of taking out tanks with their rocket launchers mowing down hundreds of Iraqi soldiers the silent stabbing of the occasional sentry were never mentioned at their post-war debriefings...In an investigation literally in the footsteps of the patrol Michael Asher tells the true story."
