I read this book rather slowly but already in my life I have read it many more times than you would wish because I feel they are the chief books of Trampers to the galaxy. The CBOTTG are books that when the words are read the writing marks you in a thrilling and funny way.
I never cause an almost terrible thing to happen like the reading of the Hitchhiker books to pass from my life. That is a most unverifiable thing I would be doing. Although the writer of this book was reputed to be a crotchety writer, I found his ideas were very substantial. His books thrill me; and fill me with periods of cordial laughter. With the five novels, belonging to the Hitchhikers guide trilogy, Douglas Adam gave his life to writing them in a very different way to other books which was to first begin in 1979 and to finish in 1992. The books have been read by millions of readers and they have been a very pleasant read, so I hope they will be read for hundreds of years. I am not sure, if future novels will ever be written like this but I had never once actually seen something of similar writing.
This one the Restaurant at the end of the universe is however the novel which is formed to actually make you laugh much more loudly than any Hitchhikers book you have read before. In this book Adams galaxy environments curiously draw their writings very deeply from well known science.
Much of the environment is here is very diificult to describe; this novel must be read. As each enspurigely written sentence seems to influence a joke of some kind. The characters used in the book are also terrific. The main character is Arthur - an unhappy human depression of the Earth who does not have in general; any idea what is detached to the galaxy; Ford Prefect is Arthurs remarkabe friend who belongs to Betelgeuse; Zaphod Beeblebrox has two heads, three arms and an attitude; Trillian is an exciting measurement of a girl who steals the heart in general; however; Slartibartfast the Erbauer from a far off planet creates extraordinary Fjord-buildings; and the funniest character of the novel, Marvin the robot who is eternally cut down. The brain he is formed of is one of intelligence but the life he leads is so verably terrible that you cannot begin to neglect him, you can call him a philosopically paranoids Androids.
A brilliant thing I have noticed not only in this not novel but all of of Adams Hitchhikers trilogy, is the activity of his whole ideas are to take a step further, he puts out the interesting facts present on all sides of your known love of reading; the universe is present in each one, it appears as frequently as you would wish for. I have also noted in the chief of Trampers books of the galaxy; that it is here in the RATEOTU, we learn about the Ravenous Bugblatter animal from Traal, all of the poetry writing Vogon Poesies, the transportor drink called the Gargle Bläser, and of course the other Leckerbissen idea is the one of being attractive, and living life in the galaxy as you were born to do. The universe is very brilliantly manufactured by Douglas Adams. He even gives you the crucial answer to the reader : the question of the life, universe and everything. The book is a book of all these sides of science, fun and imangination.
It is like a massive Tandis that comes with a series of 5 that taking them apart from each other is not so important as they are read to be exactly the same story, e.g. This story follows itself off onto a whole other galaxy based book called the life, universe and everything. I am going to let myself buy the books in the nicest set you are able to buy, 5 books is really enough in the way of sensibly separating Chief Tramper books of the galaxy such as these. The restaurant at the end of the universe, has since been written as the second book; coming after the first one called the Hitchhikers guide. You simply must buy the first book before reading the RATEOFTU as it seems to form a recent addition or an update of what happened to all the characters after the first book; its the story of their contiuned longer history. Since a book of such consequence tell you of all the mysterious incendcies of the galaxy. It is like a book that finally flys into the top of your brain. It is initially Zaphod Beeblebroxs brain that has to be surgeoned and its the reason the heart of gold; however rolls up in his pocket, and the final crucial question of the life universes and all that receiveavble universe is to be answered - or, as we will receive, the grace of 2 million years in the past. At last the books will come to an end all books do. It is thus an inclined end of brilliant torsion, brilliant imagination which sees complete history of the life of the human mass. The beginning of universe itself is likely to play up to the novels greater role, than precisely a device organizing book written with such grace at the beginning with a voyage of the guide the hitchhikers edition of the guide is published at offices and it is interesting to notice, precisely how much Zaphod Beeblebrox controls the novel - all is true in the Third novel, after this one is a bit of a difference i.e. it is separate and Arthur takes a step further in the 3rd novel you begin to see his depression of the galaxy slightly shades and fades.
Actually, the restaurant at the end of the universe is crammed with Zaphod; teachings of the universe, the restaurant itself and of course the Golgafringan Arch. This second novel is just filled with the luminosity of a far away galaxy and it is a very satisfyingly thing to read of. The history of the universe was written very well and I read 3 excellent concepts a rolled together and slighlty rolled up in top to its own creation. The recent novels are called:
3. The life, universe and everything (1982) 4. So long, and thanks for all the fish (1984) 5. Mostly Harmless (1992)
These books are a fantastic creation of the hitchhikers series, but this book the RATEOTU puts the story in all connections with the history of the 3 later books. The trilogy is altogether an excellent read. The trilogy is also available on unabridged audio books read by Douglas Adams.
Other books by douglas Adams ------------------------------------------- > The Meaning of Liff (1983, with John Lloyd) > The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: The Original Radio Scripts (1985, with Geoffrey Perkins) > The Utterly Utterly Merry Comic Relief Christmas Book which includes: + Young Zaphod Plays it Safe + The Private Life of Genghis Khan, + A Christmas Fairly Story + "Supplement to The Meaning of Liff" >The Deeper Meaning of Liff > Last Chance to See > The Illustrated Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1994) > Douglas Adams's Starship Titanic > The Salmon of Doubt (2002), unfinished novel manuscript (11 chapters), short stories, essays, and interviews (also available as an audiobook, read by Simon Jones)
Advantages: Hysterical in places and finding out the question to the ultimate answer... Disadvantages: A tendency to wander off the plot(s) at times.
...If you haven't read the Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, the short main character list below will be very useful for understanding the following review;
Arthur Dent - Last male Human Being and hero of the Hitch-Hiker books.
Tricia McMillan - Last female Human Being and only rational, intelligent person on the Heart of Gold. Nicknamed Trillian.
Ford Prefect - Arthur's best friend (who turns out to be an alien very early on in the first book) and ... ...the Galaxy with massive ego. And two heads and three arms.
Vogons - Gray/yellow aliens always in a bad mood, sent to destroy the Earth to make way for an inter-stellar bypass. Not satisfied until all the Humans are gone.
The Heart of Gold - Space ship that Zaphod steals; has the only infinite improbability drive ever created. Literally can do anything, no matter how improbable.
As the second book in the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, ...

What to do after producing the cult book of the decade? An interesting dilemma faced by the late great Douglas Adams after writing The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and the only solution is to follow it up with more of the same.
1st impressions aren’t as startling as HGttG as the cover of my well thumbed 1st edition paperback is based on the TV series in that it looks like a starfish made of cheap fluorescent lighting on a black background. ... ...as the wordy bit is far more interesting.
The characters are again: -
Arthur Dent – one of the only 2 survivors of the Earth’s demolition
Trillian – the other survivor who is with
Zaphod Beeblebrox – two heads, 3 arms, president of the galaxy and friend of
Ford Prefect – writer for the guide, who lived on Earth for 15 years and is a friend of …… Arthur Dent
Also involved are Marvin the paranoid android, ...

More Hilarity Review ofThe Restaurant at the End of the Universe - Douglas Adamsby
dom00
Advantages: Extremly funny Disadvantages: Too Short
This is the second book in the Hitch-Hikers guide to the Galaxy series. It continues directly on from the first book with them planning a trip to the restaurant at the end of the universe. They do get there eventually but not until a bizarre series of adventures which includes dead relatives, flying office buildings and sentient elevators. Adams is always incredibly witty, humourous and a constant source of new and bizzare ideas. It works because ...

Adams at his Best Review ofThe Restaurant at the End of the Universe - Douglas Adamsby
Marcia
Advantages: Loses a rainy day Disadvantages: If read at bedtime be prepared to have to finish it.
After reading the first book in the series I had to continue. Not only did this book equal, but in my view surpassed, Hitchhikers Guide. With Adams usual descriptive writing I found myself engrossed from cover to cover (and a few mornings I think the propped open eyes may have been visible). A must read for all Adams fans - do it right now!!!
I myself will be rushing out to buy the next one in the series to see if it gets even better, although I ...

Advantages: Funny, unusual, great read Disadvantages: Not one of a 5, or even 3 part trilogy
...soon - I get quite caught up in the story and want to see how it pans out. The book has been optioned for the silver screen (by Madonna no less) so maybe one day someone will continue the story for me. In the meantime I'll read it and re-read it, because it's delightfully different, is full of useful tips and tricks and, basically, because it makes me laugh. A lot.
You'll like it if you're a fan of modern fiction and can stomach a few slightly graphic descriptions. I'd say it's on a par with Sutcliffe's "New Boy" or one of the adult Judy Blume books (Wifey / Summer Sisters / Smart Women) in terms of both nekkidness and style.

...DouglasAdams’ ‘Hitch-hiker’s Guide’-trilogy consists of The Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Life, The Universe and Everything, Goodbye, and Thanks for All the Fish and Mostly Harmless. These five books together lend a whole new meaning to the word ‘trilogy’.
The first book starts off with the Earth being destroyed by Vogon warships to make way for a new hyper-space bypass. Shortly before the destruction the main protagonist, Arthur Dent, is whisked off into space by another important character, Ford Prefect, who is in possession of that wonder of wonders: The Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Universe, which, when activated, displays the message: ‘Don’t Panic’.
Through the first three volumes Arthur Dent is exposed to the perversities of a largely inexplicable universe. He meets, among others...
