This is the second book in the Hitch-Hikers guide to the Galaxy series. It continues directly on from the first book with them planning a trip to the restaurant at the end of the universe. They do get there eventually but not until a bizarre series of adventures which includes dead relatives, flying office buildings and sentient elevators. Adams is always incredibly witty, humourous and a constant source of new and bizzare ideas. It works because he puts the most ordinary of people in the strangest situations. If you haven't read the series, do so soon. If you have then read it again.
